I don't love images attached to poetry because I think the art is that you draw your own in your mind from my words overlayed with your experiences. That intersection is what you see. That said, this image hit me. Ballroom they think the memorable part is the dress, the money, the room full of expensive teeth pretending not to stare. it isn’t. it’s the way two people can look starving with a thousand people around them. his hand on her face like he’s trying to keep the world from taking her back. her gripping the fabric at her hip like she already knows every good thing slips. and somewhere behind them the party keeps moving the way parties do. drunk people. small talk. another glass breaking somewhere. but right there in the center of it is that old human trick: finding one mouth in all the noise and treating it like oxygen.

swimmer the poet has a disorder. he mistakes attention for reciprocity. give him a sharp mind, a locked door, a woman who says just enough, and he'll spend months learning the shape of the key. he calls it connection. the dopamine calls it pursuit. so he writes. he listens. he remembers. he sends the text. he carries the weight. and if one day he decides not to, nothing happens. no message. no question. no hand reaching back. just quiet. not because she owes him. because somewhere he confused being wanted with being met. that's the trick. his devotion never fades. the hyperfocus never brakes. it was the symmetry that never existed. he kept crossing oceans for someone whose feet never left shore.

@Fiances_ fashion, mostly. as sleeves came off and hems came up body hair was marketed as unsightly ( i think gillette was huge on this) to sell a product. now it's just what we're used to.

Why are WOMEN expected to have no body hair at all when it's completely natural for both MEN and women. Where did this mindset even come from?

Nah. That's the story people tell themselves because they need to believe someone else's life got worse without them. Sometimes people regret losing someone. Sometimes they're relieved. Sometimes they move on and build a better life. The idea that fumbling you is guaranteed to be the darkest chapter of someone else's life isn't romance. It's fucking ego.

religion. same today as it ever was. your personal relationship with whatever you believe is peachy. the scam is that no one has that anymore - they have a life style they promote, a way to profit off it, and a way to feel superior/diminish others or flat out turn them into villains in their story. it is a tool for control that pretends it's coated in divinity to be above questioning.

If we agree that belief is simply accepting a claim as true, then what you're really asking is how an atheist decides what to accept as true. For me, the answer is evidence. I follow the data to the conclusion, then remain willing to change that conclusion when better evidence arrives or old evidence proves unreliable. My goal isn't to defend a belief. My goal is to have beliefs that are as accurate as possible. I think many theists and atheists differ primarily in how tightly they hold beliefs. I'm not attached to any conclusion. If I'm wrong, I want to know I'm wrong. My standard for belief is strong evidence, and my loyalty is to what is true, not to what is comfortable.

strange animals we drag ourselves uphill with dirt in our mouths, build things from nothing, survive things that should have buried us, then spend the rest of our lives explaining why none of it counts. give someone a seat at the table and they'll wonder who was supposed to be sitting there. give them love and they'll wait for the bill. give them peace and they'll listen for footsteps. we know how to prepare for disaster. we rehearse it. carry it in our pockets like a lucky coin. but joy arrives and we treat it like an intruder. we're always looking over our shoulder for the thing we already decided was coming. and when it does, when the sky falls, we don't ask why. we ask what we missed. as if inevitability was a personal failure. that's the joke. we are the engine and the brake. the hand steadying the ladder and the hand pulling it away. we are the voice that says keep going and the one that says you don't belong here. every prison i've escaped was built by my own hands. every horizon i've reached was reached because i ignored them. we are the sky, vast enough for anything, and the anchor, afraid to let go. and somehow we mistake the struggle between them for who we are.

Don't get me wrong, the list is full of monsters. Newton, Einstein, da Vinci, Gauss, Archimedes, von Neumann. Pick any of them and you're talking about a mind so far beyond normal it borders on absurd. But Newton is different. The guy didn't just advance a field, he built several. Calculus, the laws of motion, universal gravitation, optics. Any one of those gets you remembered forever. Newton did all of them. The others have a claim to greatness. Newton has a credible claim that modern physics started with him.

fuck you some days I don’t want peace. I want the crack of bone, the rupture of silence. I want to carve my name into the soft flesh of the world until it remembers who the fuck I am. mercy is for liars. today, I plant salt where others beg for rain. I am tired of swallowing my teeth. tired of being told the high road is noble by people who never walk it. every scar has a name. every lesson came dressed as a friend. every kindness I regret arrived smiling. so fuck your forgiveness. fuck your understanding. fuck the speeches about healing. some wounds close. some become architecture. I built a house out of things that tried to kill me. I sleep well there. and if that makes me bitter, good. sweet things are eaten first. today, I am not interested in growth. I am interested in consequences. I want the world to look at the wreckage and finally understand that patience was never weakness. it was restraint. and restraint is just violence with its hands in its pockets.

demon they say you don't love me, you love the idea of me. but it is both. i adore the impossible thing that lets me look this long. i admire the sharp mind, the beautiful scars, the way my voice follows you into the corners where no one else gets to go. i adore the little girl who wanted safety. i admire the woman who learned she could survive without it. i admire that you meet kindness with kindness, and darkness with a smile that says is that all? i need you. and i respect the idea that someone like you could stand the full weight of being seen.

her head’s in my lap, bare feet on the armrest, sunlight dripping through the blinds like it’s got nowhere else to be. I read her my poems. the good ones, the bad ones, the ones soaked in bourbon and life where I etch her name in the mess. she laughs, says I’m full of shit, but her hair’s in my hands and she hasn’t moved in an hour. and if im being honest, that’s more than enough.
