I made the hard decision to leave home after my service year and relocate to Lagos, and so far it hasn’t been what I expected. I started by enrolling in a Master’s programme at UNILAG in History and Strategic Studies and graduated in January with an excellent result. While on the programme, I stayed in the school hostel as it was the cheapest and safest place I could stay. Since graduating, I’ve been squatting with friends, and I must say they’ve given me a lot of time to get my own space. Getting accommodation in Lagos has been hellish, specifically because agents collect fees without finding accommodation within my budget. Ironically, the hope of getting a job has been slim, as I’ve just been surviving on small gigs that aren’t sustainable. I’m good at sales, have basic knowledge of data analysis, and I’m a fast learner. Right now, my biggest dream is to get accommodation within my means on the Mainland and a stable job. I’m hopeful 🙏
