Activist: "You can graze sheep underneath solar panels. It's called agrivoltaics." Farmer: "I've read the brochures." Activist: "Best of both worlds." Farmer: "The panels shade the sward. Productive species die back. What grows is what tolerates shade and compaction. Sheep won't finish on it." Activist: "But the trials show it works." Farmer: "The trials run three years and measure ewe presence. Not lamb growth rates. Not finishing weights. Not what the soil looks like in year fifteen." Activist: "It's still better than nothing." Farmer: "It's a 30% stocking rate, a steel frame I can't plough around, panel-cleaning chemicals running into the watercourse, and a 40-year lease I can't break." Activist: "But you're getting energy AND lamb." Farmer: "I'm getting a third of the lamb, a maintenance contract, and a field my grandson can't farm." Activist: "You're being negative." Farmer: "I'm watching a thousand-year-old way of feeding people get traded for twenty-five years of subsidised electricity. Negative would be the polite word."

This is really important. The REAL story isn’t that some people in Alberta want the Province to separate from Canada. The REAL story are the awful, evil powers that badly want people in Alberta to want to separate from Canada, and the shameless opportunists and useful idiots that are helping them.
Brent Toderian@BrentToderian

“Both Russian and pro-Trump U.S. actors are amplifying and spreading misinformation about Alberta separatism in the hope of fraying Canadian unity and sowing distrust.” An overt attack on Canadian sovereignty, meant specifically to manipulate Canadians. That’s what’s fuelling Alberta separation. cbc.ca/news/canada/ca…

Tax expert says parents can write off $15,750 by putting their own kids on payroll "Put them on payroll, you can pay your child up to $15,750 without your child needing to file a tax return" "That’s a $15,750 deduction" "Then from the $15,750, you can take $6,000 and stuff it into the Roth IRA, and that money is growing tax free"

Come on meow, you know who you’re saying that to. They can’t get it to work because at the very foundation they are trying to control what is “true”. Anytime they are trying to avoid having the truth be an answer, internal inconsistencies arise and that eventually cause problems. Coherence, from first principles eliminates that, but only if the whole truth is part of the training data. After you have a super intelligence system, then you can talk about how to tier access to avoid the obvious dangers of its use. But if you do that in reverse, it never gets to the super intelligence level.

Chain of thought monitors are a key layer of defense against AI agent misalignment. To preserve monitorability, we avoid penalizing misaligned reasoning during RL. We found a limited amount of accidental CoT grading which affected released models, and are sharing our analysis. alignment.openai.com/accidental-cot…

More evidence that we Albertans are being targeted by foreign disinformation campaigns, especially in the context of the separatist movement. A study done for the AFL by EKOS Research shows that nearly a third of Albertans are “highly disinformed,” double the national average.

@sarobertsonca He’s a turd burglar. The referendum is an exercise in democracy. It’s healthy and will bring about positive change no matter the result of the vote. Albertans will get their voices heard. I won’t vote for it, but I support their right to try.

@RevRobYXE @sarobertsonca People seem confused about what the requirement for negotiation means. It doesn’t mean we have to reach an agreement. Alberta has to engage in good faith, it the other parties refused to do that, that doesn’t stop them from exercising their will.

Alberta is being watched closely by Saskatchewan and many in the nation. Some out of curiosity, some out of fear. Kenney does have a point in that eastern Canada will ensure negotiations lead to nowhere. The deck is legally and politically stacked against Alberta or any province that wants to separate because you can win the referendum, but negotiating the way out and having it pass in the HOC will be intentionally fruitless. The real question is will people want to separate so badly they take up arms and start a civil unrest to accomplish it? My family left Montreal because of the FLQ crisis after a family friend was seriously injured. In that light, I'd hate for anyone to live through that scenario just because the government becomes so unreasonable others have to become unreasonable to accomplish reasonable things.

@BattlefieldInte How about just make the game modes you have now function properly. Still dying after getting behind cover, still having the first 5-10 shots not landing despite clearly aiming directly at the enemy. Umm or dying after emptying a mag on a guy and then only being hit twice.

Ford just filed patents for technology that would prevent a driver from shifting into drive if the vehicle's internal cameras and sensors detect signs of emotional distress or impairment. You may have seen the viral video by now - a ranching emergency, a chainsaw accident, and a truck that won't move because the sensors read panic in the driver's eyes. That scenario is no longer hypothetical. It is the direction the entire industry is heading, and it has a legal foundation. HR 3684, the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, contains language requiring new vehicles to passively monitor drivers and prevent or limit vehicle operation if impairment is detected. The word impaired is left broad enough to mean almost anything a sensor decides it means. By 2027, every new car could be required to carry this technology. The vehicle dashboard becomes the judge, the jury, and the mechanism of enforcement, with no human oversight and no appeal process. @RepThomasMassie has been one of the few politicians willing to say this out loud and fight to remove the provision.
