At $4,722, Alabama ranks 50th (the lowest) in state and local tax collections per capita. We have cut $1.4B+ in taxes since 2022 and are on track to cut another $40M in overtime taxes this session. I’m proud of our work on affordability, but nowhere close to being satisfied.

It was great to visit the CREATE Center in Oxford with my friends Rep. Chad Robertson, Rep. Steve Hurst, and Senator Keith Kelley. This facility is a major workforce development engine for East Alabama and is doing a great job preparing students for success.

“We just wrapped up the 19th legislative day, taking us well into the second half of this year’s Regular Session. During these 19 days, we have already racked up some important wins for Alabama,” @GovernorKayIvey writes. “Just this week, I signed Senate Bill 149, which creates a pathway for more veterans to teach in Alabama classrooms. I also put my signature on the Healthy Early Development and Screen Time Act to help our littlest Alabamians. Earlier this Session on the public safety front, I signed my name on the Child Predator Death Penalty Act, just to highlight a few priorities. .@CoachForGov and Alabama House Speaker @RepLedbetter announced support on Thursday for closing Alabama’s primary elections to only registered members of each party. Alabama does not currently have party registration. Instead, voters choose a party ballot at the polls. State law also bars voters from switching parties between a primary and that cycle’s runoff. “There’s a lot of talk about this,” Tuberville said. “I’ve spoken with Speaker Ledbetter and we agree that we have to do something about Democrats voting in our elections. They shouldn’t be doing it. I know he’s moving a bill forward very very soon as we speak, and if we can get that done, I think it’s gonna help the cause of the conservative Republicans in the State of Alabama.” According to Speaker Ledbetter, lawmakers are in the process of reviewing proposals, “and are eager to get the ball rolling.” Read more here: yellowhammernews.com/report-sen-tub… #Alabama #ALPolitics #Voting #Elections
