This is a perfect example of the insane results you get when compliance with the letter of environmental regulations is prioritised over creating a society which has the care & guardianship of Nature as a foundational value.
Can’t dump treated sewage into a ‘protected’ river due to environmental laws? Just dig an expensive, resource-intensive & destructive pipeline to stick it into an unprotected river instead- simple!
As the guardian of an ugly duckling river with almost no substantive environmental protections, I strongly believe that rivers are just as deserving of our love & respect as the more showy rivers. We must say no to such the two tier regulatory system & say that we have a duty to protect & restore *all* of our rivers.

Nothing to see here, just the @PresidentIRL suggesting that the newly passed planning bill, which all government parties insisted was compliant with the Aahus Convention, could be challenged legally.
Another wise voice to the chorus of dissent- this bill is hugely problematic.

Cost of making a 1st party (dev applicant) appeal to An Bord Pleanala is €110, to make a 3rd party appeal (observer) is €220. This is discriminatory. These files are for appeal on same case. If i had a chance to consult on planning bill, it’s an issue I wld raise. @EOBroin
