Dear Canada, The American People love and cherish you. What we don't like is your Prime Minister bad mouthing us while he and his family live in, study in, work in, own in, and profit from the United States. Get rid of this globalist turd.

@MartinFish28070 CN is expected to spend 3 Billion in maintenence and strategic infrastructure initiatives this year. That's for a 30,000 km rail network. HSR is 1000km

@SchmoopLoop9 @CanuckKilljoy @strength345 @marissenmark What a time to be a former CN employee but also before that I worked for my uncles paving company. I guarantee you maintenance costs on the rail line will be ten times that of a highway. You have no idea what your talking about but talking anyhow. Full of shit and bad manners.

Seems like most people against high speed rail in Canada assume that everyone will ride it for free. And they also appear to assume that there will be no economic or environmental spinoff. We never hear them complain about building more highways or bridges.

You all think my post was futuristic nonsense when elevated tracks exist in other countries already . It's not nonsense It's completely doable and positive.

@CanuckKilljoy @strength345 @marissenmark There is nothing partisan about highways or HSR, you compared HSR to highways, I was pointing out that highways suffer the same shortfall when it comes to price but more per km. 413 is to my knowledge the only highway being proposed in Canada atleast to that scale

I'm opposed to the ridiculous cost and overruns that are inevitable on Ford's schemes as well. The bidding process and dramatically inflated costs on government projects in Canada overall are ludicrous, regardless of what government does them. It doesn't have to be this way, but as long as governments across the board treat major projects as a piggy bank trough giveaway to connected insiders instead of vital infrastructure meriting transparency, open bidding, and cost efficiency, I'll oppose all of it. Does that satisfy you, or did you not get the partisan dunk you were hoping for?

Does a single stretch of highway cost billions of dollars year round to remain solvent, yes or no? Does the government charge massive fees to recoup the investment they put into the construction of highway, rendering it unaffordable for the vast majority to use? Let me be clear on this. The government says it will be $90 billion, and upwards of $4 billion upfront for consultations and assessments to politically connected firms like SNC Lavalin. Given the long precedent of national projects always going dramatically over budget, it won't be shocking if the price tag ends up being $150 billion or even higher. The private investors who are putting capital into this thing are going to want to see a recouping of that investment, which means either billions of dollars every year from the government to keep it solvent per contracts with these firms, or will have to allow the charging of outrageous fare prices that will essentially make it a $150 billion convenience line for wealthy business and political travelers only. Now, given that the stated $35 billion GDP ends when the project does (because you stop paying construction workers and other support labour once the project is done), does massive cost overruns, delays, billions of dollars in yearly subsidies to keep it solvent if they want more people using it, just to make a convenient rail line for the wealthy....sound like reasonable and responsible ROI for taxpayers, yes or no? Bear in mind, Ontario currently pays $789 million in year round maintenance for the ENTIRE provincial highway system, not one stretch of road. The subsidies to keep the HSR line functioning in these circumstances will likely dwarf that. Get back to me.

Another HSR post; FUN FACT: the HSR trains of Italy, China(some) & Sweden are all ZEFIRO Variants designed by, you'll never guess who.... BOMBARDIER, Canada's flagship transportation industrial firm. We even apparently have domestic expertise... Build the damn train!!!

Canada needs Japanese and South Korean engineers to build us a high speed train with its own dedicated line from Quebec City through Montreal and Ottawa to Toronto. We also need a high speed rail between Calgary to Edmonton It’s time for us to evolve
