@drunklibshill He's a boring centrist technocrat who's smart enough not to axe social programs (Starmer take note) and who's positioning vs the US and economic policies broadly make sense. His main opponent is also a lame-duck who doesn't realise it yet.

STATEMENT ON PROVINCIAL ADDRESS The Premier of Alberta intervened to lower the threshold for getting a separatist question on the ballot. She then intervened to eliminate a review requiring the question be constitutional. She intervenes again tonight after yet another court has told the separatists to slow down and follow the law. The premier can wrap these actions in the words of democracy, but she is willfully ignoring the will of the vast majority of Albertans who want no part of this separatist conversation. The simple reality, a reality you would not find in her speech, is this: she has pushed along a question because a group has threatened to bring down her and her party if she does not. Her internal political problems have become our national crisis. The Premier asserts her patriotism. I will take her at her word, but I will remind her a patriot puts country ahead of party. A leader steers the agenda, rather than having it blindly dictated to them. An Albertan finds ways to do what’s right, not justifications for doing what’s wrong. This baffling, referendum-on-a-referendum question will do nothing to settle anything. It adds another layer of confusion. It will divide. It will distract. It will damage. I hope her government will consider how to step back from this madness before the damage to our province’s social fabric and economy is too great. Corey Hogan MP Calgary Confederation

@TheChaosWeeber It's like a religion to them, even after a vote where they lose by margins like this they would still claim Quebec wants to separate, but is just confused rn.😕

Canada was way ahead of the times in the 50's. Then they elected a conservative government. The rest is history.

@JohnBouras3230 @RCAF_ARC @CDS_Canada_CEMD And if we're gonna get serious about our military build up (aka replacing the entire RCAF fleet), the Snowbirds, I'm sorry to disappoint, should rightfully be at the bottom of the list and accept stop-gap measures until the rest of the fleet is replaced.

@JohnBouras3230 @RCAF_ARC @CDS_Canada_CEMD Well, they have Canadian engines. We don't manufacture anything close to lights jets anymore. If people wanna mourn the lack of Canadian aerospace manufacturing, they can thank the shortsightedness and cowardice of govts of all stripes and the RCAF top brass.

Well I am beginning a campaign against the prop planes that the @RCAF_ARC want Canadians to settle for because of incompetence. We will never accept a prop plane get Australia to fly our air shows or Israel if you want these planes our tax dollars our decision @CDS_Canada_CEMD @RCAF_ARC

All of a sudden the entire CPC caucus remembers they are MPs, to screech about the new Snowbirds turboprops (w/ Canadian engines btw). But standing up to separatism? Literally ppl trying to dissolve the Confederation... Silence, absolute crickets... Odd...

Lots of sound and fury about the Snowbirds transition to turboprops. Specious conversation. 1959-1964. RCAF Golden Hawks. Canadair Sabre 1967. RCAF Golden Centennaires. Canadair Sabre. 1978-. RCAF Snowbirds. Canadair Tutor. 66 year of Canadian built planes. No more.

2026 will be the last year of the Snowbirds until they return in 2030 flying the CT-157 Siskin II. I think the decision to suspend their performances until new aircraft arrive is the correct one. I do not like the selection of a propellor aircraft. cbc.ca/news/politics/…

@AlexRMcColl That low should be filled by future trainers imo. FA50 with guns & rockets in addition to being trainers fills that gap handily. GCAP is undeniably a high regardless of fleet mix. I'd say use the F35 as a transition facilitator to GCAP, sell them off 2nd hand to allies later.

@Bone348 I think the counter drone 70mm mission will demand a high-low mixed fleet for a long time. The Gripen fits the low perfectly, while the F35 is a better fit for the high, albeit inferior to GCAP. A better mixed fleet would be Gripens and Tempests.

This might just be an overreaction to Canada buying GlobalEyes instead of AEW jets from Boeing or L3, but it also should encourage us to make our own Gripen fighter jets. Sweden offers true partnerships with domestic jobs for Canadians.

A strong Canada that prioritizes hard power over rhetoric benefits us all. Unfortunately, Canada has failed to make credible progress on its defense commitments. DoW is pausing the Permanent Joint Board on Defense to reassess how this forum benefits shared North American defense. 1/3

Today is a moment to be grateful for the country and province we inherited. Canada was born under Queen Victoria’s reign. And what an incredible legacy it is! Confederation created our country, created Ontario as a province, and gave us a constitutional tradition rooted in parliamentary democracy, the rule of law, federalism, and freedom. We are lucky to live in one of the most peaceful, stable, and successful countries in the world. Our responsibility is to build on that inheritance and pass it on stronger than we found it. So, Happy Birthday to Canada's first queen! Happy Victoria Day!
