“We found something far more powerful than biceps and bullets,” says the Australian founder of the Akashinga ranger force. How did these women turn the tide against wildlife poaching? bit.ly/3SQES0t

"In some venues, reporters now do their work with all the passion of an accountant, and it shows in their guarded, couched and equivocating copy." -- so many riffs to pull out of this @jackshafer piece on the loss of media swagger. politico.com/news/magazine/…

Fantastic to have this partnership up and running! We are a small team based 10,000km away, so finding high quality partners with an established presence on the ground is critical to success.

Our partnership with Clinton Health Access Initiative in Zimbabwe is now live! These remarkable individuals are driving health progress for women across Zimbabwe, making screening and treatment for cervical cancer more accessible for women in rural and underserved communities.

Some serious talent on show as netball fever strikes Masiphumelele in the lead up to @NetballWorldCup. Thanks to the amazing team at Masisports and the inspirational Vince van der Bijl for their hospitality today, something that will stick with me for a long time @_JNFoundation

#segal2023 - an incredible welcome to an awe inspiring conference. One that will help solve our problem of how to connect @_JNFoundation to hundreds of grassroots change makers across Africa.

Akashinga, or “the Brave Ones", is an all-woman team of rangers protecting the natural heritage of Zimbabwe, creating education & employment opportunities. We're proud to support the @IAPF Akashinga program. #philanthropy #internationaldevelopment #socialimpact #Africa

The schools in Cape Town's Masiphumelele township are getting major upgrades thanks to people like Vince van der Bijl, Fred Alger & Dr Judith Neilson. Neilson is funding a multi-sports astro field, an astro volleyball court and three cricket nets at Masiphumelele High School.

What’s notable too is that the Institute’s focus area is journalism - and the @smh (and many other media organisations) are previous grantees. So it’s also an especially interesting case study of the interaction of philanthropy and journalism. 2/2

The reporting on the Judith Neilson Institute by @smh is an interesting example of scrutiny of larger scale philanthropy in Australia - such scrutiny is a quite new phenomenon in here, I wrote an article about it for the Third Sector Review in 2019 👉 search.informit.org/doi/10.3316/IN… 1/2

@jackheath @abigaildisney As long as our tax system is based around "income" and "realised gains" rather than assets then this will be the result. Blame the game, not the players.

The ProPublica report on the 25 richest Americans raises an interesting question, @AbigailDisney writes. "What motivates people with so much money to try to withhold every last bit of it from the public’s reach?" theatlantic.com/ideas/archive/…
