Fitness > ‘fatness’ for longevity A new meta-analysis of nearly 400,000 people looked at both BMI and cardiorespiratory fitness (measured by maximal exercise testing) to see which predicts mortality risk better. Being fit dramatically reduces the risk of dying—even if you have overweight or obesity. Fit overweight and obese people had no statistically significant ⬆️ in all-cause or CVD mortality risk vs. fit normal weight people. Being unfit more than doubles the risk, no matter your weight. Unfit normal-weight, overweight, and obesity ⬆️ all-cause and CVD mortality by 82–235% (risk increased along with weight classification).
