They can detain you for whatever "a reasonable" amount of time is. They can only arrest if there is legal grounds to do so.

@ChrisMa43860384 @chad_lanyon @ThoughtCrimes80 They can’t arrest you if they can verify your legal status in the US. But, they can detain you for a few hours until they can either verify your status or not. Of course, if they aren’t able to verify, that’s when they might go into arresting you.
