@ADirector33 It is about time a rule is put in place that is positive for the kids so affected by Covid extra years. Get your degree and get off the field. I just hope those looking for a 6th year in 2027 are all told no. Injuries happen, college is not a career.

The redshirt is dead — and most programs aren’t ready for what that means. Every scholarship now starts a 5-year clock the moment a kid enrolls or turns 19. No extensions. No medical freezes. That changes recruiting, roster building, and player development in one stroke. Birthday math is now part of every offer conversation. A kid who turns 19 before he steps on campus has already burned time. Coaches who ignore that will regret it. The portal gets leaner but more expensive. Fewer players with extra eligibility means a smaller pool — and the ones in it will cost more. The programs that win this era won’t be the ones with the most NIL money. They’ll be the ones who evaluate 17-year-olds better than everyone else and stop hiding developmental needs behind a redshirt year. The margin for error just got really small. @jrichardgoodman @VinnysCorner1 @SergeantMartee @BeholdPaleH0rse #portal #NCAA @latsondheimer @KasselMedia #recruits #eligibility #hssports #coaches #coach

BREAKING: The NCAA is officially adopting the age-based eligibility structure, giving players 5 years to play 5 seasons from either when they enroll or from the season they turn 19 (whichever comes first). The Division I cabinet was unanimous in their vote for the new model.

@CoachKuoni90272 I disagreed with the coaches assessment of our competition, however the competition you play against may matter more than the talent you play with.

Agreed, quality of film is big. We will know exactly the level of competition a student athlete is going against based on the film and research. That’s why I’m a big advocate of schools scheduling great competition no matter how much it helps or hurts the schedule. States like Texas and some others are very competitive regardless what division you go to

#1 thing that makes me roll my eyes in recruiting are kids that say “It matters where you play high school football at…” There’s 20,000 High schools that play football in the US. You’re going to tell me, someone’s who’s recruited at that level, that all DI programs only recruit from the MaxPreps top 25 rankings? No. Look any roster of any P4 team and tell me how many of those players went to schools ranked in the MaxPreps top 25. Might be a few, but certainly not many. Here’s my point. Yes we recruited the top programs in the country, 100%. They’ve been consistent in their development, dedication to the game, and it’s shown by their performance winning on the field and in the classroom. You winning the state championship or even going far in the playoffs means more film, stats, and opportunities against good competition. However, 99% of our board were schools you’ve likely never heard of. I know kids who played at the P4 level whose graduating class had less than 100 kids. College coaches and scouts don’t care what high school you play for - they just care whether or not you will fit into their system and if you help them win. If you put in the effort, have quality film, go to camps, build relationships with coaches, take the questionnaires, dm coaches, and have the grades, you’ll maximize your potential to play at the highest level. Not guarantee scholarship, but you’ll always give yourself the best chance and that’s all you can do. Do your best and let God handle the rest.

@tommyreamon A 17 year old freshman is a parent problem not a college problem. The 24-25 year old college senior is a little less ridiculous than the 22 year old or older freshman.

People never think about the 17 year old college freshman having to compete against 22 and 23 year olds every day. Some college seniors are 24 and 25 now. Then when the young kid struggles physically, everybody says, “He just needs to redshirt.” 🤷‍♂️

@CoachBeede This is an important thread. Interview the coach as much as possible. One issue, you can ask the best questions, but the answers are only as good as the integrity of the answerer.

Parents — what is the one question you wish you had asked on your son's official visit that you didn't think to ask? I will compile the best ones and share them back this week.

@StevenMPolkXP There are only two Big South teams and they play under the OVC charter. So it’s just much easier to write OVC instead of OVC-Big South.

South Carolina, where the first shot of the civil war was fired, where 40 percent of those enslaved came through the Charleston port, is today engaged in an ugly recidivism to draw maps that will deny a Black person the chance to serve in Congress. The stakes could not be higher. Our political fight is not on a playground, but a moral battleground. We must stand for Black representation across the South.

Parents need to be more active in their children's recruiting process. Leaving it up to the athlete to "figure it out" is hurting them more than it is helping them.
