An eyewitness observed protesters attempting to block True North Transparency from filming the “Hands Off Venezuela” protest outside the U.S. Consulate. Antifa activists are openly hostile to independent media that risks undermining their preferred narrative. This suspicion, which sometimes escalates into intimidation or violence, has become a recurring feature of the Omnicause protest circuit. Not all protesters like being seen in action, particularly those engaging in unlawful conduct. This appears to be the impetus behind the ongoing harassment of me, my videographer, and other independent media workers. Beyond supplying “legal observers,” the Movement Defence Committee (MDC) has also played a role in connecting arrested protesters with legal advice or representation. MDC is connected to the Law Union of Ontario. MDC point person Macdonald Scott pled guilty as an Indigo 11 arrestee. Public spokespeople for that group included lawyers Mike Leitold and Arash Ghiassi. Ghiassi is currently acting as agent for Gisela McKay to receive a peace bond summons. McKay stepped back from her coordinator role at MDC in September 2024, publicly blaming me for having complained about her behaviour towards us. A man was filming from a public sidewalk when a store owner rushed out, saying he didn’t give permission and that customers were being recorded. The filmer warned him not to touch him, saying any physical contact would escalate things. Filming in public is legal - but customers also deserve privacy. True North Transparency (TNT) records in public at a variety of locations, including outside shops, places of worship, and at demonstrations. He claims he’s faced the most violence outside synagogues. To clarify, TNT operates independently.
