2025 Sports in Kansas 3A Boys 🏀Player of the Year: Reed Friesen of Hesston, Jack Perry of Galena, Brady Brumbaugh of Goodland. With the deepest class of parity in Kansas from top to bottom with 64 teams we had a three way tie in voting which has never happened since doing this for 13 basketball seasons. Friesen (6’6” 200 Sr.) of Hesston (24-2) helped his team to the 3A state title with 18 points per game, 7.5 rebounds per game, three steals and two assists per contest while scoring 67 over three games at the 2025 state tournament. Perry (6’3” 170 Sr.) of Galena (23-2) was one of the best shooters in Kansas and took his game to a whole new level in 2025. He averaged 22 ppg, 7.8 rpg and 3.2 apg. He scored 27 in a loss against state champion Hesston in the semifinals and helped his team to two Final Fours in last three seasons. Brumbaugh (6’6” 180 Sr.) of Goodland (22-4) became the schools leader in all time points this season with 1,350 points. He averaged 22 ppg, 6 rpg, and 2.7 spg in leading his team to back to back second place finishes. Friesen will play at Dordt next swason. Perry is undecided but holds an offer from D2 Missouri Western. Brumbaugh holds multiple juco and NAIA offers. Quotes from the three. Friesen: “Ended the year with successfully meeting the goal of winning a state championship. I had big season that came with a lot of individual and team growth throughout the year.” Perry: “Even if it wasn’t the ending we wanted, we surprised a lot of people and I am thankful I got to play 25 games with the teammates that I had.” Brumbaugh “Every night it was a grind for us in the GWAC. We could not take a game off or else we would get beat, we played tough and grinded out wins all year. But couldn’t get it all the way done for the second year in a row.” Also a special mention to Dayne Johnson of Silver Lake who was also very close in this competive POY race from media voters. — Congrats to Reed Friesen on the 3A Player of the Year from Sports in Kansas. Your family is very proud of you! Go Swathers! The Swather Power Club is very proud of the Hesston boys and girls basketball programs! Congratulations on a great season and these well deserved awards, you make Hesston Proud! Go Swathers!
