@TheRedDouglas

I used to post my art here, but then the plagiarism machine came. Now I mostly reshare Genshin stuff. Art at the butterfly place.

every time gi's global fan base goes "why isn't miliastra dead yet?" "miliastra is gi's biggest mistake." have you seen what the cn fandom does with it? just because you don't know what to do with it, doesn't mean others can't.

@ubekeki So I can easily believe that Milaistra was aimed at a different and much larger audience than the one that I regularly interact with.

@ubekeki Yup. I have very little interest in Milaistra Wonderland and see very little chatter about it online, but I am also aware that being mostly in English speaking social media space means I'm not getting the full picture.

It is also the result of a culture that has, in the past decade or so, come treat fans as “special little guys” in the way you might pander to a toddler, talking about how things are “for the fans”, doing set visits, fan events and so on. Of course that creates entitlement.

@_VERSAVEA_ Though even in Canada that's the case with First Nations versus most Euro Canadians.

@_VERSAVEA_ Not an entire expert on this but from a bit of research back in University, indigenous cultures in Latin America are much more communal in their outlook than say in Canada or Europe.

Fun fact: Execs decided to fire almost all the artists whose paintings are a major part of this classic Marvel Studios intro. Artists who were pivotal in defining the visual look for those 17 years of record breaking profit. But sure congrats on the profits Marvel and Disney…

I feel there’s a cultural difference on how western vs asian audience view pantalone, on the western side i’ve seen him being potrayed more as a fem, as an asian he looks entirely masc to me because the four rings on his fingers is a typical engkoh-engkoh (rich chinese) look

@Bru_cesariana @algerianmizi Natlan didn't even put that much forethought into the issue, especially as seen in the clothing. However, that at least provides a framework for dealing with the issue in a narrative sense. (Nonetheless, Polynesian culture is entirely separate from Mesoamerican culture.)

@algerianmizi What if Sumeru was divided like Natlan? Six tribes or districts but each with specific cultural aspects

mixing cultures in one region isn't always bad, but it depends on which cultures. if it's neighbors like you said, it can be understandable — but when we see sumeru is SWANASA, it feels orientalist as even if they have similarities they're all VERY different cultures.

@algerianmizi ...as opposed to say North Africa, Western Asia and Southern Asia. Though I'd add that even Fontaine seems to have the good sense to mostly stick to pate 1800s France as a template. Genshin doesn't even afford Sumeru or Natlan a similar consistency.

@algerianmizi Yup. It's not going to matter so much if you mash up 19th century Western and Central Europe, which was becoming increasingly interconnected at that time anyways, when it by-in-large wasn't colonised and it's culture was widely respected...
