Interviewer: "Don’t you think Peter Obi has a different idealolgy compared to those who have been in power for 2 decades? During his tenure as governor, he was said to have stabilised the economy of Anambra state" Sowore: "So why’s he comfortable with those same people ? Was he not a governor for 8 years? What did he do differently from other governors while he was in power? On record, the poverty index of the state actually grew worse. You’re just throwing his name around because politics is lacking so much substance"

UNIEC warns silence on Nnamdi Kanu case could erode Igbo leadership credibility NNEWI — The United Igbo Elders Council (UNIEC) Worldwide has raised concerns over the ongoing detention and prosecution of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), describing the matter as extending far beyond routine legal proceedings. In a statement yesterday titled “UNIEC Worldwide: The Necessity of Responsible Igbo Leadership Engagement on the Nnamdi Kanu Matter”, and signed by its Director-General, His Lordship Justice Alpha Ikpeama, the council warned that continued silence by some Igbo leaders risks undermining both moral authority and public confidence. ome News E-Editions Politics Metro Business Sports Editorial Columns Allure News March 30, 2026 UNIEC warns silence on Nnamdi Kanu case could erode Igbo leadership credibility By Chimaobi Nwaiwu NNEWI — The United Igbo Elders Council (UNIEC) Worldwide has raised concerns over the ongoing detention and prosecution of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), describing the matter as extending far beyond routine legal proceedings. The group stressed that the case has become a “critical test of leadership responsibility, constitutional fidelity, and national inclusiveness within the Nigerian federation.” While acknowledging that the Federal Government frames the matter within the context of national security, UNIEC highlighted persistent concerns over due process, jurisdictional consistency, and adherence to legal and human rights standards. “The United Igbo Elders Council, UNIEC Worldwide, as a body vested with moral authority and a deep sense of responsibility to the Igbo nation, has undertaken a careful and dispassionate review of the ongoing detention and prosecution of Nnamdi Kanu,” the statement read. UNIEC noted that the Igbo nation’s history demonstrates unity and strategic leadership, particularly during the Nigerian Civil War and post-war recovery, and urged leaders to actively engage on the matter. “Continued silence or detachment by sections of Igbo leadership on this matter risks eroding both moral authority and public confidence,” it said. The council also warned that the ongoing detention has heightened tensions in the South-East and stressed the need for coordinated leadership engagement to maintain regional stability and national cohesion. Affirming its commitment to the rule of law, UNIEC called for advocacy for due process, fairness, and judicial integrity, coupled with constructive political dialogue. The elders urged the Igbo “Who is Who” to engage the Federal Government through lawful and diplomatic channels, while supporting credible legal processes and addressing the deeper issues driving regional agitation. “This moment calls not for rhetoric, but for thoughtful and strategic action. To remain silent is to concede relevance. To act with unity and purpose is to shape outcomes and secure the future,” the council concluded. vanguardngr.com/2026/03/uniec-…

Iran: Trump informs aides of readiness to end war without reopening Strait of Hormuz President of the United States of America, Donald Trump has informed his aides of his readiness to end the conflict in the Middle East even without reopening the Strait of Hormuz, the Guardian UK reports, quoting the Wall Street Journal. The President is said to have communicated to his aides that he is prepared to terminate the US military operations against Iran. This is even if the Strait of Hormuz remains predominantly closed, according to an administration officials cited by the Wall Street Journal. Such a decision would likely reinforce Tehran’s stronghold over the waterway and postpone the intricate task of reopening it for a future time, the report indicates. It further elaborates that “In recent days, Trump and his aides have evaluated that an operation to open the chokepoint would extend the conflict beyond his desired timeframe of four to six weeks. The report said that Trump has concluded that the U.S. should accomplish its primary objectives of undermining Iran’s navy and missile capabilities while de-escalating current hostilities, simultaneously exerting diplomatic pressure on Tehran to restore the unimpeded flow of trade. The report added that should this approach prove unsuccessful, Washington would urge its allies in Europe and the Gulf to take the initiative in reopening the strait, the officials noted. It said there are also military alternatives that the president could consider, but they are not his immediate focus. dailypost.ng/2026/03/31/ira…

JAMB releases 2026 UTME mock results, warns against fraud The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board has released the results of the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination Mock, which took place on March 28, 2026. Candidates can check their results by sending MOCKRESULT via SMS to 55019 or 66019, using the same phone number used during registration for the 2026 UTME. According to a statement signed by the JAMB spokesperson, Fabian Benjamin, on Tuesday, “A total of 224,597 candidates registered for the Mock examination, out of which 152,586 candidates successfully sat for the test. The exercise was conducted across 989 Computer-Based Test centres nationwide.” The board said over 20 CBT centres were delisted due to technical challenges. “Over 20 CBT centres that experienced technical challenges have been delisted due to technical inadequacies,” the statement read. The statement also warned candidates against fraudulent individuals or groups on WhatsApp claiming to facilitate score inflation. “Candidates are strongly advised to beware of fraudulent individuals or groups, particularly on WhatsApp, claiming to facilitate score inflation. Such claims are false and criminal. “Any candidate found to have engaged in such activities will have their registration cancelled. Where such infractions are discovered after the examination, results may be withheld or withdrawn,” it added. The board reminded candidates that the main UTME is scheduled to commence on 16th April 2026. JAMB had admitted that technical glitches disrupted the 2026 UTME Mock. Thousands of candidates were affected by server failures, power outages, and delayed start times at several Computer-Based Test centres, leaving students stranded for hours. punchng.com/jamb-releases-…

FG opens applications for N1bn MSME grants April 7 The Federal Government plans to disburse over N1 billion to Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises under the 2026 National MSME Awards. The Senior Special Adviser to the President on Job Creation and MSMEs, Temitola Adekunle-Johnson, disclosed this at a media briefing in Abuja on Tuesday. Adekunle-Johnson said the awards portal would open on April 7 and close on May 7, urging MSMEs nationwide to submit applications. He said the 2026 edition, tagged “Renewed Hope for MSMEs,” would prioritise financial grants to support business growth. “This year, we are focusing more on funding, giving grants that can directly support and grow MSME businesses. “We are going to be spending, with the support of our partners, up to about one billion naira for these awards,”he said. According to him, the initiative marks a shift from previous editions that focused on cars, houses and shops as major rewards. He explained that the new approach would provide MSMEs with direct funding tailored to their immediate business needs. Adekunle-Johnson said the government, in collaboration with partners, would ensure wider distribution of financial rewards across categories. The presidential aide added that more beneficiaries would receive support beyond the top three winners in each category. Adekunle-Johnson said winners would benefit from mentorship programmes coordinated by relevant government agencies. He noted that agencies would provide post-award support, including business advisory services and market access opportunities. According to him, outstanding MSMEs may also be supported to participate in international exhibitions. He said the awards would recognise innovation, creativity, employment generation and use of technology. punchng.com/fg-opens-appli…

Trump Urges Countries To Go To Strait Of Hormuz And ‘just Take It’ US President Donald Trump urges countries that did not help the US in its coordinated strikes against Iran and are now unable to get “jet fuel” to buy American oil, and to go to the Strait of Hormuz and “just TAKE it.” Trump writes on his social media platform Truth Social: “All of those countries that can’t get jet fuel because of the Strait of Hormuz, like the United Kingdom, which refused to get involved in the decapitation of Iran, I have a suggestion for you: Number 1, buy from the US, we have plenty, and Number 2, build up some delayed courage, go to the Strait, and just TAKE IT. “You’ll have to start learning how to fight for yourself, the USA won’t be there to help you anymore, just like you weren’t there for us. Iran has been, essentially, decimated. The hard part is done. Go get your own oil!” timesofisrael.com/liveblog_entry… reuters.com/world/trump-ur…
