The Islamic Tribunal claims it has authority over all aspects of Muslim life in Texas. It tries to settle disputes among Texas Muslims using Sharia law and wrongly tells people that its decisions are official court judgments backed by the Texas judicial system. The First Amendment protects religious freedom, but it does not allow any religious group to act as a real court, enforce foreign laws that conflict with Texas or U.S. law, or pretend to have government authority. Doing so violates Texas law. Attorney General Paxton’s investigation is looking for evidence to see if the Islamic Tribunal is breaking the law. As part of this probe, he has sent the group a formal Request to Examine (RTE) for documents.

Not quite, but close... TPS is temporary protection. When it terminates, those beneficiaries revert to whatever status they had before - usually unlawfully present. They are typically given time to leave or seek other relief, and courts often issue stays during litigation. The key point remains: they were never supposed to stay permanently. They were given temporary shelter because of conditions in their home country that the Secretary has now determined no longer exist.
