@Oneantifem @sleepy_devo I don't have the study on hand, but that study on abortion reasons that circulated a few years ago mentioned that 70%+ of abortions were done because of economic pressures. Those bans won't magically solve things, you'll only get more babies from the irresponsible or stupid.

@sleepy_devo Those two issues are the most universal ones in Western countries inhibiting birth rates. Many of the others are very much integrated into each nation's unique economic arrangements and their cultural norms and institutions. What works for the UK won't work for Greece or the US.

What Carl seems to suggest is that immigrants to the UK have driven down safety while costs to run businesses have also soared.

Turns out that the guy who attacked the synagogue today reportedly lost a bunch of family in Lebanon a couple days ago. I am officially muting this guy now. He has completely lost his mind. Back in the mid 2010s he was more measured, and at least tried to get things right. I was never a fan because I never found him particularly insightful on anything, but he at least seemed to be doing his best. But he has gone the direction so many podcasters and YouTubers have gone, which is pursuing clicks and views by posting hyperbole and outrage. Go back and watch his old stuff to see the contrast. He's a totally different person now. There should be a psychological diagnosis for this phenomenon. I have to believe a brain scan would pick up structural changes given the magnitude of the behavioral shift. At least I can always re-listen to this 2015 episode of Sam Harris absolutely eviscerating him for 2 hours. Still one of my favorite things Sam has ever produced. 🔗youtube.com/watch?v=CYUPr6…
