Keegan Bradley says the new PGA Tour format in 2028 will be “extremely competitive”, with “extreme consequences”. He also said you can’t rely on a good year two years ago, you’ve got to prove it every single year: “I think the stuff that Brian announced is sort of what we've been hearing, confirmed what we're going to do. It's going to be just extremely competitive. Golf has always been a sport where you have to earn what you get and, like, this is going to become even more so with that. I mean, you're going to see players that are, you know, top, top players that -- you know, I think a lot of the Europeans that don't get to play a full schedule out here, where they're playing 14, 15 events, because -- they better play some solid golf in those, because the consequences now are extreme. “You're going from playing the biggest tournaments in the world to you're not in 'em, which is going to be really, really intense. I think the membership is very aware of that and golf is now even more so becoming a result-oriented sport. Can't rely on, I had a good year two years ago, you got to prove it every year, which I think is great.” The PGA Tour Championship Series is without doubt going to become more competitive and cutthroat. If they follow through with the current plans, there will be no place to hide and if top players have a bad season, they’re going to be relegated, regardless of how big of a name they are. That’s going to be really fun to watch. Keegan was also asked if it was strange the PGA Tour hasn’t been to the big markets of Boston, New York or Chicago in the last couple of years: “Yeah, very strange. I think if you spoke to everyone of the membership they would all sort of agree that this is like the best place to play golf for us, especially as the season, end of the summer into the fall. Who knows how the schedule is going to evolve, and maybe there will be a swing in the northeast. But I think it's really important that we play golf courses like The Country Club, like the golf courses all over New York, all over Philadelphia. These are just how, you know, I grew up playing courses, tree-lined, rough, I think that they're great for tournament venues.” @PGATOUR @TravelersChamp

The PGA Tour’s Championship and Challenger Series set to be launched in 2028 will have a MASSIVE knock-on effect on the DP World Tour. The new system means in total more than 270 of the best players from around the world (130 on the Championship Series and 144 on the Challenger Series) will be regularly playing across PGA Tour events between February to August. That’s double the current system and it is inevitable it will significantly weaken the strength of fields on the DP World Tour during the peak golf season. The purses on the Championship Series will be at least $20 million and the Challenger Series will be at least $4 million, making them both more attractive than the current purses on the DP World Tour which average less than $3 million in this period. It is yet to be decided what will happen to the 10 dual members who earn PGA Tour status via the Race to Dubai rankings, but I’m yet to speak to anyone who thinks all 10 will earn access to the Championship Series, if any of them do. This makes the PGA Tour’s Challenger Series, with 20 qualifying spots, a far more attractive place to play for career progression. DP World Tour members have been expressing concerns to me about the tour becoming “tier 3” for a while, and their fears have been confirmed. The announcement of a “limited” series of elevated international events in the autumn will do little to ease worries, especially with the lack of details and the DP World Tour appearing to be an after thought as the “strategic alliance” is renegotiated in 2027. This is a self-fulfilling prophecy where talent will continue to be drained from the majority of the DP World Tour’s schedule at the highest rate in history. The DP World Tour needs strong leadership now more than it ever has.
