The Blazers are expected to go to great lengths and many candidates in their coaching search, with assistant coaches and college coaches viewed as the most likely outcome. But what if the right coach for this team is already a head coach in the NBA? It’s rare, but not completely unprecedented for teams to pursue employed head coaches. In 2013, Doc Rivers was traded from Boston to the Clippers for an unprotected first-round pick, while Jason Kidd was traded from Brooklyn to Milwaukee for two second-round picks and cash. More recently, during their 2025 coaching search, the Knicks reached out to several current NBA head coaches — Quin Snyder, Billy Donovan, Jason Kidd, Ime Udoka, and Chris Finch — but were denied permission to speak with all of them. Not a likely scenario in any means for Portland, especially under the new ownership of Tom Dundon. Yet an interesting concept to say the least. Is there any current head coach in the NBA you think would be worth the gamble? Let me know. #RipCity

Well, Joe Cronin — this is what they pay you the big bucks for. No head coach. No draft picks. Great assets at your disposal. Not to mention a young and hungry team ready to take the next step. Cronin has done a great job to get the team to this point, yet this is an offseason that can make or break the franchise for not only the season to come but for further seasons down the line. Show us what you got. #RipCity

With the news being reported today that Tiago Splitter is unlikely to retain his position as the head coach the Portland Trail Blazers, the team plans on interviewing up to 30 potential candidates for the position. Thoughts #RipCity? Is there any coach in particular you want for the job?

@PDX49ersDucksMs In totality you would be correct, however I would say the core of this team is 25 and younger. Scoot, Shae, Clingan are only 22. Dame, Jrue, Jerami drive up the average for sure.

@TwoForOneTalk Portland is not a young team. I don’t get why people say this. They are the 17th oldest team in the NBA.

The NBA Draft Lottery will be taking this Sunday in Chicago, and for the first time since 2022, the Portland Trail Blazers will not have a representative in attendance. In fact, Portland does not have a pick in EITHER round of the draft for only the second time in franchise history, coupling with the 2014 draft. It seems unusual that a young and emerging team in the league is not going to be able to bolster their squad through the draft, and it will be interesting to see how the front office navigates it. Would you want Portland to trade into the 1st or 2nd round? #RipCity

@icwhite01 Fair point, I believe a late first round instant impact player could be advantageous. Not so much drafting for potential. Could save us alot of money in the future

@TwoForOneTalk I don’t see us going even younger helping us out in the next 2-4 year stretch we have w Deni and dame. By the time whoever those picks would be our main core is needing to get paid and won’t be able to keep everyone together. Right now we have we a solid core and pieces to trade

Disappointing from DA. Fanbase never slighted him or gave him the slander he’s seen being apart of the Suns and Lakers, and gave him a chance to rebuild his name.

Deandre Ayton says he felt like he “disappeared” in Portland before joining the Lakers: “This is where people make their names, and this is where people get to see you play for real… It’s a big stage, and I’m truly happy to be back.” (via @DanWoikeSports, h/t @TheNBABase)

The Jaylen Brown media frenzy is a reminder to fanbases around the league: What goes up must come down. There is a start and end to every team’s success and its up to the front office and health of players to maximize that window. Boston has been a serial playoff team for the past decade, a championship in 2024 and appearing in at least the Conference finals 6 out of 10 seasons. Yet with how the current CBA was constructed in 2023, keeping a championship roster for longer than 3-4 seasons is as difficult a task as ever before. Every dog has its day and unfortunately, Boston’s seems to be on the horizon.

May 3, 2019 — Game 3, West Semis. Tip-off: 7:46 PM PT Final buzzer: 11:13 PM PT Second quadruple overtime game in playoff history. CJ McCollum: 60:01 mins Damian Lillard: 57:59 mins Nikola Jokić: 64:58 mins Jamal Murray: 55:02 mins A game that is remembered for its length, but for me, it will be forever known as “The Rodney Hood Game.” With the game practically crying out for a hero, Hood stepped up in 4OT — scoring 7 of his 19pts in the period to carry the Blazers to a 140–137 win and a 2–1 series lead. Portland would go on to edge the Nuggets out in Game 7 to advance to the WCF, and likely without Hood's contribution in the series that wouldn't be possible. Hopefully the future of the franchise will have many more heroic and memorable performances in May and June. #RipCity

@kmtaotao @michaelgrange Understandable but if a player is disgruntled and wants out of a situation, its hard to get the full value of him in a trade

@TwoForOneTalk @michaelgrange it's not the right time to trade him, unless any team likes him too much and can give very decent asset such as player we need or first of this year.

Earlier today it was reported by @michaelgrange that third year forward Gradey Dick is open to a trade from the Toronto Raptors. Coming out of the 2023 draft, scouts had Dick transforming into an elite shooter with very high basketball IQ. To be fair there was flashes of it, as in the first months of his sophomore year he was lighting up the league averaging 20 points in his first 20 games of the season. However, Toronto leaned into trying to compete in the east this season, unfortunately leaving Gradey without much room for error in his development. Playing in a career high 76 games, Dick’s minutes were cut in half and he struggled from beyond the arc shooting a career low 30.1% from three point range. Though it has not worked out up north, this a player that undoubtedly could have a benefit to any NBA roster. A low risk target that similar to Deni Avdija, could just need a new environment to unlock his full potential. Personally, my favorite attribute of Gradey Dick is his tenacity and grit that no matter what the actual performance is from him, will be infectious throughout a team and organization. At only the age of 22, would you take a chance on a former lottery pick? #RipCity
