My favourite thing about Poland is that you donโt address strangers as โyou.โ You say Pan, Pani, Paลstwo (Mr/Mrs/+this plural I canโt translate): formal address is built into the grammar. Even in a shop, youโd say โCzy Paลstwo majฤ โฆโ not โdo you haveโฆโ and it isnโt performative politeness but actually structural respect. There is no casual โyouโ for someone you havenโt been invited to be familiar with. When I do this, people often rush to correct me or rather announce familiarity. โOh, donโt call me Madame, call me Catherine.โ And Iโll still address them formally until they give me clear permission to stop or until I decide Iโm familiar and done with the formal. Pure elegance. The kind that assumes every stranger deserves dignity before theyโve earned familiarity. The West abolished formality for uhhh friendliness. Poland kept it bc respect.

BREAKING: Just five minutes before Trump's announcement to halt the attacks on Iran, massive trades reportedly hit the market. In one move, $1.5 billion in S&P 500 (ES) futures was bought while $192 million in oil (CL) futures was sold. These orders were 4โ6x larger than anything else at the time. The trader seemingly made huge gains. Unusual.
