A lot has changed in the past couple of months. I made the difficult decision to resign and after some well needed time off to breathe and find me again I’m ready to start my SW journey again. A change of direction this time, an open mind and hoping this time it’ll be right🤞

Catching up on “catching a copper” and I’m absolutely heartbroken at what I’m watching. I have so many thoughts, so many feelings but ultimately I’m horrified and heartbroken.

These past months has been a lot, the transition from student to NQSW has been a lot. The reality of working in children’s services has really got to me and in all honesty I’m not sure it’s for me. I want to be able to give my all to the families I work with…

@Yas_SW1 I think your thoughts & feelings are valid & normal. I’ve had the same many times over 25 years. It takes empathy, emotional intelligence & the ability to continually reflect & question our decision making for us to succeed in SW, all of which you clearly have.💕 @FamilySafeHerts

@davearossiter Thanks very much Dave! It is hard juggling everything, the whole experience has taught me a lot of valuable things, that I’ll be taking forward into wherever my SW journey takes me😊

@Yas_SW1 As others have already said, that's a great reflection. It is really hard, and the ASYE makes it feel like another demanding year of placement. It sounds like you're in a good authority and that another team could be an option. I'm sure you'll find your place. ❤️

@seamsoddlouise Thank you! Yes definitely, I’m really keen on keeping my options open to find what’s authentic for me, that’s what I really enjoy about social work that there is so many different services out there

@Yas_SW1 Huge respect to you Yas, you are clearly able to reflect & think critically which is a rarer skill these days. Whatever you decide to do,take your time, you have no doubt impacted&remember social work is practiced everywhere&anywhere. You have earned the opportunity to explore! 😀

Dealing with these feelings has been difficult but it has showed me the importance of having a strong& supportive team who allow you to be transparent as mine have been absolutely amazing so I feel really lucky for that. Just going to take the weekend to think everything through

But I don’t think I can, the job is hard enough but without my heart in it, it feels impossible. I really wanted to love my first job qualified and for it all to click and I’m really gutted that it doesn’t feel like it does for me

Can’t believe my first week in post has gone so fast. Everyone seems super supportive&caring which is important to me, but my anxiety this week has been at a high. New processes, info& everything else to take in has been a lot.The jump from student to NQSW has defo hit me

2 years, 170 days in placement, umpteen essays/presentations and a dissertation later… The masters degree is completed. I didn’t think two years ago when my life was turned upside down that I’d ever be here. I’ve loved this MA and I can’t wait to start my journey as an NQSW.
