So, ahead of the next covid wave, can we all be absolutely clear on this: Covid is airborne. Each new covid infection adds to your risk of developing long term health problems. Masks work (n95+/FFP2+ ones). Can I get an amen?

What happens when a Flock camera misreads your license plate? In the case of Brandon Upchurch, it meant being pulled over, attacked by a police dog, sent to the hospital, and then arrested. The incident began when an automated license plate reader from Flock Safety incorrectly scanned Upchurch’s plate and flagged it as stolen. That alert was sent to a police officer, who treated the hit as confirmation that the vehicle was involved in a crime. Upchurch was pulled over and confronted as if he were driving a stolen car. What followed escalated quickly, ending with a police dog being deployed and Upchurch hospitalized before ultimately being taken into custody. All of this began with a camera reading a license plate wrong. This is the reality of automated surveillance systems which have flaws. When the technology makes a mistake, it’s not the police officer or government who pays the price. It’s us, the people. Stay vigilant, find out if your area uses FLOCK and try to get them removed.

Israeli military censors have imposed a news blackout – presumably because Israel is suffering far graver damage from Iranian missiles than it wants to let on. But why are news outlets like the BBC not telling audiences that their reporting from Israel is being suppressed?

Missing in Hauswald's presentation this time around, for example, is "we can't keep doing what we're doing", mentioning the high number of evictions over the past two or so years. That's interesting, given the audience.

Wang complaining to the public library that the report on storing materials didn't have enough details after accepting an overtime report that went into no details about OPD overtime abuses that likely total millions of dollars

They're on to the OPD overtime issue, in a department few in the public would have expected a drill down on abuses to have occurred, very early in the morning. It does not seem to have been an accident, as Wang cancelled one in her own evening committee focused on public safety

Like much of Oakland's gun violence, this tragedy appears to be a shootout between two armed parties. The dead were bystanders. This isn't a crime epidemic, it's an arms race, where armed people are psyching each other out into homicidal violence. eastbaytimes.com/2026/03/09/oak…
