@CharlyTraarbach @SaffronOlive I would auction it and let the market decide. It will go for more than 500K if people are this quickly offering that much for it.

@pmarca @lexfridman I can't stand people who advise others to "read X books in Y amount of time". This is like the posh version of posting meals or travel pictures on Instagram.

I was going to defend @lexfridman’s book list, but then I saw someone compare it to listening to the Beatles, so now I’m angry too.

Someone asked here the other day why I was cutting the old roll cage out of my car. It had a few welds that looked like this from the previous owner 😳

@DrawsMiguel Clion or vscode with Rust plugin/LSP is pretty sweet. I love Clion, though.

@lordtupperware Thank you for sharing. Glad you are getting back after it. I train with a couple of folks that have T1 diabetes and admire them for managing it so well.

Probably clocked about 200 mat hours (BJJ). Another 50-100 studying and intentionally watching film. And probably an additional 25-40 hours of random drilling. Hard work, but I am way better than I was at the start of 2022. Looking forward to 2023.

@editingemily Same. Maybe not quite offensive to me, but I keep it quiet. I like to remind it that it is my servant, not the other way around :)

@wcrichton You caught them. Using a Vec. It’s still rather compact and tight in memory. This makes it way more complex than a linear representation style diagram, doesn’t it?

This is a REAL string in Rust. This is what they don't want you to see with their "abstractions."

@muchnerve That is… true. The down side is we may be the reason we did not chat for an extended period because we are bad at remembering things.

one thing i really love about ADHD people is how y’all simply don’t have friendship degradation mechanics. i can text an ADHD person after months or even years of radio silence and just pick right back up where we left off

@medus4_cdc Toy designers know what they are doing with stuff like this. It is like all the adult jokes in Disney movies. They know and, rightfully, have no shame lol

@0xabad1dea This year I just want to eat good burritos and write more code. FWIW, this is awesome advice. Find something really narrow and improve it, the measurable progress really helps keep me going. A bunch of narrow things later usually add up to something big :)

Advice for those of you assembling a foot-long list of new year's resolutions: change one thing in your life at a time. CHANGE ONE THING AT A TIME. if you try to overhaul everything simultaneously, you'll get overwhelmed and give up.

@kingprotty @DrawsMiguel The whole point of Rust is that the memory safety is a “zero cost abstraction” so I think this argument falls apart for virtually all use cases, but I am curious where Rust’s memory mgmt model would incur overhead.

@DrawsMiguel Memory-safety isn't always useful; Especially if most of the patterns you write programs with are inherently unsafe within their models, or if safety requires "significant" runtime overhead. Also Zig has ez cross-comp, comptime, C compiler, and simpler semantics over Rust/Swift
