The paperback is now out. At a time when the Middle East is once again in turmoil, immodestly I suggest you take a look at my book to see how the region ended up the way it is. Also available as an audiobook.
Jeremy Bowen@BowenBBC

Picador just sent first copies of my new book, published on 1st Sept. It follows my BBC series Our Man in the Middle East. Ridiculously proud that I took most of the photos, including the jacket. If you need one book to help you navigate the Mideast, I hope it will be this one.

Well and truly chuffed to be listed today as being awarded an Honorary Doctorate, Doctor of Letters (DLitt) for services to journalism, photography and broadcasting by the University of Glasgow. It's a really nice welcome home, having just come back from the Middle East.

“The only ‘evidence’ produced by the Israeli forces so far to support their allegations is what they themselves admit is a photoshopped image of Ali Shoeib – a blatant demonstration of their disdain for international law”

UN experts call for investigation into Israel’s killing of journalists in Lebanon. “[It’s] a standard… practice of Israel to target and kill journalists and then claim, without providing any credible evidence, that they were involved with armed groups”. ohchr.org/en/press-relea…

I’ve had loads of abuse for this, predictably, and plenty of people have accused me of supporting Hezbollah. But no one seems keen to explain why targetting the Lebanese medics who came to help the 3 TV journos was justified.
John Simpson@JohnSimpsonNews

The Geneva Convention says it’s a war crime to target journalists, even if they work for an enemy organisation. It’s also a war crime to target medical workers. After the killing of 3 Lebanese TV journos last week, several medics coming to help them were killed as well.

Today is the 33rd anniversary of the day the IRA bombed Warrington town centre and killed my son Tim and 3 yr old Johnathan Ball. Words can never describe how losing a child leaves a huge hole in your heart and your family. Eternal love Tim ❤️❤️

@leloveluck Terrible decision. You and many colleagues have done stellar work. You don’t deserve this and neither does the Post’s readership.

I have been laid off today from the @washingtonpost, along with most of the International staff and so many other wonderful colleagues. I’m heartbroken for our newsroom and especially for the peerless journalists who served the Post internationally — editors and correspondents who have been my friends and collaborators for almost 12 years. It’s been an honor to work with them. I launched the WorldView column in January 2017 to help readers better understand the world and America’s place in it and I’m grateful for the half a million loyal subscribers who tuned into the column several times a week over the years.

A fitting tribute to the great man. I had a taxi driver once in the US who told me how honoured he’d been to serve Mark Tully with a whisky and soda when he was a waiter back home in India. Mark’s fans were legion.
Steve Rosenberg@BBCSteveR

Sad to learn of the death of former BBC foreign correspondent Sir Mark Tully. For so many years he was known as the ‘Voice of India.’ As a tribute I play one of the pieces Sir Mark selected on BBC Radio’s Desert Island Discs: Danny Boy.

I have said this before, Emma Tucker, the Editor of Wall Street Journal deserves a Pulitzer. She is a Murdoch editor, leading on the facts, joining the @nytimes and Bellingcat and saying ICE is lying. PS Fox News is in the same building as her at 1211.
Phillips P. OBrien@PhillipsPOBrien

Worth noting that the @WSJ has joined with the @nytimes and Bellingcat to say that ICE is lying in its description of the shooting of Alex Pretti. The video evidence more and more supports the view that this was an gratuitous execution. wsj.com/us-news/videos…

3 years ago I beat Bowel cancer and now the big C has returned but this time it is in my liver and lungs. So I have another even bigger battle on my hands but I’m determined to win again. Only time will tell. Fingers crossed 💙
