@brandonwojo And I’m sure this was a part of the initial hire. It’s very possible Watson starting was already agreed upon and was even a condition of hiring their next head coach.

@brandonwojo Todd Monken’s boss is the owner. If he can somehow make Watson playable and successful, imagine the fact that would save Haslem. And the good will that would buy Monken with his BOSS. There’s a huge job security incentive for Monken to give Watson a shot.

@ESPNCleveland Cleveland drafts shedeur and gives him a handful of starts his rookie season. Shedeur fans: THE BROWNS NEVER GAVE HIM A CHANCE.

"If you're a Shedeur fan though, he had no chance last year, and this year, the owner of the Browns came in studio with us and said 'Deshaun Watson looks great.' If you're a Shedeur fan... you've got to still feel like nobody is still giving this kid a real chance," - @HammerNation19. Do you think Shedeur is getting a real shot?

@Yo_Walt @thedawgspodcast I’m not saying he’s some sure thing. My whole point is that the odds of him returning to his former elite form is higher than shedeur somehow finding that form. Which would be historic from a qb picked that late after an underwhelming rookie year to say the least.

The Dawgs - A Cleveland Browns Podcast
The Browns traded 3 first-round picks for Deshaun Watson and paid him $230M guaranteed. He’s a former first-round pick and 3x Pro Bowler heading into his ninth NFL season. The fact that there’s a competition and he’s not QB1 by default over a second-year fifth-rounder tells you everything you need to know.

@AidanKephart Certainly not defending Deshaun the person. And I think it’s unlikely he returns to that elite form. But I think it’s more possible than shedeur finding it for the first time. That’s my only point.

@bradwill24 This is clearly about Browns Watson Watson was one of my favorite players in the league in Houston but why hold on to that era when 1. He clearly isn't at that level anymore 2. He's a horrible guy and doesn't deserve optimism that he'll return to that

OHIO STATE GOING BACK2BACK
What elite upside has Watson showed since joining the Browns? 😭 literally just talking, if you don’t like Sanders than say that but to say he isn’t good is just an idiotic take. Sanders threw for a 300 yard game in his first year with little to no weapons, Watson has never sniffed 300 in a Browns jersey had a drastically better roster to work with

@Yo_Walt @thedawgspodcast Okay. My only point is give me the guy who has shown elite upside over the guy who has never showed it. And if he did he would be a MASSIVE outlier.

If the Browns start Deshaun Watson and he plays all 17 games then the future will look legitimately bright for them as they had great draft classes in 2025 and 2026 along with a presumable top 3 pick in 2027

@JMoney76487344 @thedawgspodcast Definitely not. My only argument is that I like his odds of getting back to where he’s already been more than shedeur magically getting there for the first time.

@bradwill24 @thedawgspodcast Because the last time that happened was 6 years ago in 2020. You just going to ignore all the seasons that happened in the meantime?

@BSO This is the hilarious possibility. If Watson has any honor, he would ball out and then sign a vet minimum contract with them.

@CWest2K19 @GalacticCactus7 @FBallAnalysisYT 100% right. The bet is who has a better chance of turning in elite qb play. The former elite+ qb who has been hurt, and made a huge off field mistake that impacted him, being back to his old level. Or the late round qb who wasn’t very good as a rookie somehow becoming elite.

@bradwill24 @GalacticCactus7 @FBallAnalysisYT Watsons also had 2 Achilles tears and an arm injury that ended the last 2 seasons he’s played in, and he didn’t play last year at all either. On top of the year before all those injures he missed 11 games after missing the whole season the year before that.

@LockedInBake @thedawgspodcast Great point. And no doubt it was ugly. My only point is that shedeur was also ugly. And if I had to bet on one of the two figuring it out in a brand new system, I’d pretty easily pick Watson.

@bradwill24 @thedawgspodcast Under normal circumstances I would 100% agree with you @bradwill24 But the fact is last time we seen Watson in ‘24 he was even worse than that bad rookie. 33 sacks in 7 games avg 14.8 points a game, 164YPG. Watson might just give you a better chance at a top 5 pick next year!!
