Just read through the Election Commission's long notification countermanding the election in 144-Falta assembly constituency in West Bengal. 1. The Returning Officer and the General Observer did not find anything amiss on 29 and 30 April 2. The DM and the Special State Observer (an IAS officer who will certainly be reverted to the Centre if BJP loses and elevated if it wins?) on 1 May 2026 found the RO's clean chit unreliable and untruthful 3. Black tape and perfume, the SSO noted, were used to tamper with EVMs. Apparently one black tape was recovered and an FIR lodged 4. Black tape was intended to hide the name and symbol of a particular party and candidate. No prizes for guessing which party 5. Perfume was sprayed on buttons of the ballot unit so that voters pressing on the specific button could be identified outside the booth--presumably by smelling their fingers 6. The SSO also found rampant incidence of 'companion voting' or companions assisting voters to cast their vote 7. Curiously, the notification cites that video footage from the Bihar election last year was produced in Falta (whose fault could it be?) @parakala @_YogendraYadav @Apoorvanand__ @Dipankar_cpiml @DrSYQuraishi @sumonseng

In my View Kalatan Dasgupta of Panihati will get 20-25% vote and his Vote Share will decide the winner of that Assembly. And Sayandeep Mitra of Baranagar will also get 17-20% vote, he will also decide who will be the winner.

My constituency, Bhowanipore: Mamata Banerjee will poll close to 60% or even more.

The Diamond Harbour model crumbles.

MB will start with a huge lead in the 1st round, but the subsequent round will be led by SA comfortably; though that won't be able to offset MB's lead in 1st round. From the 3rd round onwards until 6th, Ward 77 counting will start, which will give her Assad-level margins. 1/n
