When people tell me to "just get over it" and that it is "just a trade", I would like them to watch this clip. This video embodies what the Mavs were for me: a fun, exciting (and yes, slightly flawed) team, with heart and soul and excitement. They were easy to root for. Dirk was my hero... and then the basketball Gods gifted us Luka. In a way, the Mavs were the most blessed franchise to me, I could often not believe our luck. Winning or losing, I was always in it, living the highs and lows, fully. For 26 years. I am still a Mavs fan now, but mostly just a shell with mostly emptiness inside. Most of all, Luka embodied a dream, which was unfolding in front of our eyes. Until it was cut short, ripped from us, cruelly, suddenly, unnecessarily, brutally. Some wounds are so deep, so painful, that they will never heal. They leave a deep scar, and I feel that scar every day. So, no, it was not just a trade. And I can't just get over it. Finished watching The 1991 NBA Finals Bulls vs Lakers Game 1 Notes: 1. Almost every player knows how to play in the post BETTER than players today. 2. A lot better footwork and fundamentally sound overall than today. 3. Way less “random basketball” almost every trip down each team is playing with a gameplan/set. No wasted possessions. 4. Good physical basketball and refs let them play physical 5. Jordan was the best player on the court (obvious) 6. Then next 3 best players were all Lakers: Magic, Worthy, and Perkins (surprising) 7. Pippen was the 5th best player on the court (so much for the “savior” Pippen narrative) 8. Lack of high clip shooting closes up the paint and it’s A LOT more difficult to drive in, more clogged lanes.
