Been awhile since I’ve been on here. New Org and my son Cooper has grown up. He’s now a soph and taller than me. Kept him out of showcases and PG events to just go and train. Pulled him out of last semester of 8th grade to train in the DR and travel our Org catching our pitchers.

C’s often want to funnel their mitt up on a block leaving the 5 hole open. Cooper had this issue and talked about feeling the mitt below the chest protector and deep. Sandy Alomar Jr here talks about deep and the knees acting as side rails. Mitt out front you have no side rails.

RH sliders to your extension side when sitting middle. Pre pitch movement matches location and shape. Think more up than horizontal across the umpires eye line. Your posture and natural shoulder blade movement will gradually work ball back towards the plate. Wait w/ one movement.

If you have a catcher that struggles to receive pitches to his extension side, here are some things to consider (1.) Check his scapular abduction (Tightness causes reduced reach) (2.) Check T spine rotation (Needs >45 deg) (3.) Use LKD set up (provides greater ext side reach)

Posted about traditional set ups and changing up receiving techniques to add more tools in the tool box for adjustments. Here is the front view of that video of my son in traditional w/ extension to flexion technique.

Slide from a game management presentation. Runners have tells…be observant early and look for trends. Off catcher in dugout should work as a team with the starter to pick up tells.

Game Management as a catcher is a chess match and you need to think. This is a slide from one of my game management education discussions. Situational catching and having the ability to process information quickly will serve you well.
