In September 2023, during a strong hurricane, a rescue diver was checking a flooded house. The basement was full of dirty water, broken items, and debris. At first, it looked completely empty. Then the diver saw a dog’s eyes reflecting in his light. The dog was alive but trapped inside the basement. He was chained to a concrete pillar as the water rose. The water was almost reaching his mouth, leaving very little air. The diver called for help and tried to free the dog. After struggling, he finally cut the chain. The dog was extremely weak and collapsed from exhaustion. The rescue team quickly brought him to safety. The dog was later named Harbor. Vets said he survived for hours by standing on his back legs. He slowly recovered and was adopted by a family. Now he is safe, but still gets scared during heavy rain. The rescue team keeps his story as a reminder to never stop checking for life in disasters.

A Japanese man named Hirotaka Saito has gone viral after selling his Ferrari to fund a shelter for abused and traumatized dogs. The 54-year-old former company executive closed his business to dedicate his life to the Wansfree Canine Rescue Centre in Yaizu, Shizuoka Prefecture. The shelter specializes in caring for dogs that have suffered severe abuse, animals so traumatized that they are often aggressive, fearful, and considered nearly unadoptable by most people. Saito’s decision was deeply personal. Twelve years ago, after his company collapsed, he fell into deep depression and contemplated suicide. On the brink of leaving the house to end his life, his own dog physically stopped him from going. Saito credits that moment with saving his life. Inspired by the unconditional love and support he received from his dog during his darkest time, he resolved to repay that debt by helping other dogs in need. Selling his prized Ferrari was his way of turning gratitude into meaningful action. This heartwarming story beautifully illustrates the profound bond between humans and dogs — and how one man’s act of kindness, born from personal pain, is now giving dozens of abused animals a second chance at life.
