A suspected fake JMPD officer has been arrested in the Johannesburg CBD after allegedly extorting motorists and pedestrians. The foreign national, believed to be Zimbabwean, posed as a metro cop-stopping drivers and demanding cash “spot fines.” He was caught in a targeted JMPD operation while allegedly soliciting a bribe. Officers seized a fake uniform, reflective vest, and cash believed to be proceeds of the scam. Authorities warn the public that real officers do not accept cash on the roadside. The suspect faces charges of impersonating a peace officer and extortion.
