@JohnyMcGu @gcooney93 Good point. And hopefully we can get away from that, especially with players that have already confirmed their preference is not with Ireland.
English

@ethersby @gcooney93 This is true and hopefully the trend continues, but the LOI underage structures have been in place for well over a decade and each Irish managers priority was to look to the UK to see who qualifies. Liam Delap is the just the latest.

@JohnyMcGu @gcooney93 Future seems a bit brighter. Our u17s just qualified for the World cup. 19 out of the 20 players are either in or have come through the LOI Academy system.
English

@gcooney93 We are so reliant on the granny rule, it masks that terrible throughput of home grown players coming through.
English

@Rehnen6 @samstreetwrites It’s the opposite though. The lesson in that story is to play so badly in Nations league you get relegated and get a playoff place by topping the rubbish league!
English

@samstreetwrites That's the only way to make nationals league matter, now countries might take the competition more seriously. Noone want to watch pointless friendlies. I think it's good!
English

No slight on Sweden, but it is nothing short of disgusting that a team can qualify for a World Cup by getting relegated to Nations League C and then beating Azerbaijan and Estonia.
Dale Johnson@DaleJohnsonBBC
🇸🇪 Sweden's World Cup group record: W-0 D-2 L-6 F-4 A-12 Finished bottom of the group. Qualified for the playoffs by winning a League C group of the Uefa Nations League. Beat Ukraine and Poland in WC playoffs. Only European team to the World Cup through the back door.
English

@MiguelDelaney No need for playoffs at all. 4 best runners up across the groups is much fairer. Current system is particularly unfair when you see Sweden qualify through the back door when they came last in their group.
English

European countries believe that 16 places out of 48 for the World Cup is nowhere near enough
There is also disquiet over home advantage in these play-offs, that may see neutral venues raised in future

@McQuaidNFL Hi Michael , I can't DM you but it's genuinely my sons 10th birthday today. He's never been to Ireland game . I would love to take him as a surprise . We are only 30 minutes away on the Dart

@_L3GACYY_ @Gergesfigo @samuelluckhurst The ship has sailed as he’s just signed a new deal for Everton. He could still have been a force in our midfield today, if he’d been given a chance then.

When Carrick was about to retire in 2018, he named two teenagers with bright futures at #mufc. One was James Garner.
Why United gave up on the 'mini Valverde' in an era where they bought two central midfielders within an eight-year period:

@21TrapSoul @EverydayMUFC22 Absolutely. You could see it when he went on loan to Forest! Key reason they got promoted. I’m still angry about us losing him.
English

@ethersby @EverydayMUFC22 I feel ETH has got a very bad ego. His ego comes first before any talent or player it is.
His academy days didn’t need any more convincing. I was absolutely sure he was going to be a top top player. And there’s more to come

@UnitedStandMUFC 11 of those 16 assists are from corner kick which you criticise all the time

@TheUtdDNA @henrywinter Yoro was literally pushing people into a crowd, it was both teams and neither of them were West Ham.

Grappling at corners was rife during the early stages of the 2018 World Cup, including during England’s games with Tunisia and Colombia. Fifa acted, instructing refs and VAR to crack down on the holding and pulling. It helped for a while. Wrestling in the Premier League, and attempts to crowd out the keeper, risk becoming an epidemic, and inevitably increased with more focus on set-piece goals. It's spoiling the spectacle for many. Officials need to get a grip of the grapplers. If that means more penalties awarded or free-kicks for baulking the keeper ... so be it. The issue will be consistency of application.
