Of those test-takers, 63% were boys (118,890) and 37% were girls (70,287), see the chart below. Stated differently, there were 169 boys scoring 700-800 on the Math SAT for every 100 girls. The male math advantage has persisted for generations (maybe millennia?) and explains why men earn far more college degrees in engineering (75%) and computer science (80%) than women. It also explains some of the gender earnings gap favoring men, since male-dominated engineering and computer science jobs are high-paying.
