De nieuwe rijken in amsterdam. Er is in Amsterdam een nieuwe elite ontstaan. Niet de ondernemers. Niet de mensen die risico nemen. Niet de mensen die iets bouwen of echt iets produceren en toevoegen aan de maatschappij. De nieuwe elite zijn de ambtenaren. De stad wordt bestuurd door mensen die zichzelf presenteren als kampioenen van “gelijkheid”, maar hebben ondertussen een van de best betaalde, best beschermde riante baantjes van Nederland zijn geworden. Een gemiddelde beleidsadviseur bij de gemeente verdient vaak €5.000 tot €7.000 per maand, exclusief pensioen, vakantiegeld en vrijwel volledige baanzekerheid. Afdelingshoofden en directeuren gaan daar ver overheen. Wethouders zitten rond de €9.000 per maand. Dit betekend ook dat de gemeente een concurrent op de arbeidsmarkt is trouwens. Maar dat is voor een ander moment. Dat alles is betaald door mensen die hun bedrijven moeten sluiten, hun huur niet meer kunnen betalen, of hun energierekening nauwelijks rond krijgen. En te kampen hebben 9,5 miljoen toeristen voorheen en nu zou het verbazen als er 3 miljoen geweest zijn. Het wordt nog ironischer. Neem Zita Pels, wethouder in Amsterdam. Terwijl ondernemers vechten om te overleven, staan bestuurders op demonstraties waar leuzen als “Fuck capitalism” worden geroepen. Maar Zita is er voor alle Amsterdammers hè! Dat gebeurt overigens vanuit de comfortabele positie van een vast overheidssalaris, betaald uit belastinggeld dat juist uit datzelfde kapitalisme komt. En waar lopen die bestuurlijke mensjes? In de Stopera! Een kolossaal stadhuis dat gebouwd werd op de plek van de oude Jodenbuurt, een wijk die tijdens de Tweede Wereldoorlog grotendeels werd leeggeroofd en de mensen gedeporteerd. Past wel een beetje bij wat ze nu met de rest van de stad doen afpakken en liefst deporteren. Wilde de vergelijking niet maken maar hij is treffend. De symboliek is bijna te scherp om satire te zijn: een revolutionair klinkend bestuur dat antikapitalistische slogans scandeert, vergadert in een marmeren paleis dat letterlijk bovenop een verdwenen en gebagatelliseerde, geroofde gemeenschap staat. De hypocrisie. Ondertussen wonen veel van deze bestuurders niet in de wijken waar hun beleid het hardst ingrijpt. Ze wonen in ruime huizen, vaak gekocht voordat de huizenprijzen explodeerden of gematst door het partij bestuur, of ze zitten in buurten waar de gemiddelde Amsterdammer al lang niet meer kan wonen. De paradox is compleet: •Ze spreken over ongelijkheid •terwijl ze zelf een van de veiligste inkomensposities hebben •zonder ondernemersrisico •. zonder enig (levens) ervaring •zonder risico op faillissement •zonder concurrentie. & zoder enig moreel besef. In de geschiedenis is er een vergelijking te treffen; Tijdens de Franse Revolutie ontstond ook een klasse die zichzelf zag als moreel superieur terwijl ze comfortabel leefden van een systeem dat anderen betaalden (ik onderstreept even dat dit exact nu aan de hand is in Amsterdam). Toen de kloof tussen bestuur en bevolking te groot werd, herinnerde men zich plots dat macht niet vanzelfsprekend is. Da kwam toen we vernuftig apparaatje wat symbool voor deze tijd stond: de guillotine. Voila. Simpele edocb bloederige oplossing. Niet omdat geweld iets oplost. maar omdat geschiedenis rijmt en laat zien wat er gebeurt wanneer een bestuur zó ver van de realiteit raakt dat het echt denkt onaantastbaar te zijn. Niet dat een guillotine moeten willen. Just stating history and facts. Amsterdam zou er verstandig aan doen dit soort geschiedenis lessen in ogenschouw te houden. Want een stad waarin bestuurders zichzelf revolutionair noemen terwijl ze leven als aristocraten en compleet naïef en zonder enig (levens)ervaring in een overheidsgebouw rondlopen gaat dit vroeg of laat schuren.
