There was a lot of craziness today, but let it not be lost that the Vice President of America spoke in person at a political rally for a brutal autocrat and said “I love Viktor.” Trump and Vance want to do to America what Orbán has done to dismantle democracy in Hungary.

Just like Eric Adams, former Jersey City Mayor Steve Fulop repeatedly under-budgeted expenses to make it look like his budgets were balanced. Now Jersey City needs the biggest municipal bailout in state history. Fulop has since crossed the river and now heads NYC's main business lobby, where he's running a $10 million campaign to oppose tax hikes on the wealthy. If he gets his way, we'll be in an even bigger fiscal crisis than he left for residents of Jersey City. Beware corporate lobbyists claiming to be fiscally responsible. nj.com/politics/2026/…

39 years ago today, Ken & Nadine Heinis traveled to Bogota, Colombia to adopt me. I am forever grateful that they gave me the chance to grow up in New Jersey! This day is more important to me than my birthday & I really appreciate everyone who has celebrated it over the years.

Hey media-- Pam Bondi is not a victim -- she willingly carried out Trump's agenda to prosecute his political enemies and undermine free and fair elections. Todd Blache is not shouldering a "burden" or "walking a tightrope." He is a willing accomplice. Language matters.

I have a feeling we're going to keep learning about shady stuff that happened during Fulop's tenure. Solomon isn't going to cover the last administration's secrets the way so many leaders do. Hopefully he fixes JC's OPRA dept so the public/press can play a role in exposing it!

@admcrlsn He was far from a progressive as mayor, though he shifted to the left lane when he thought that was his best path to the gubernatorial nomination. (Voters saw through it and he finished a distant third behind the true progressive in the race.)

I’m old enough to remember when Fulop was an actual progressive as Jersey City Mayor & candidate for NJ-Gov, instead of a paid apologist for the mega-wealthy & business interests. And that was just last year. Either he was being disingenuous then, or he’s being disingenuous now

This is a warning for NYC as well - People can resent the wealthy, but the math doesn’t change: a small number of taxpayers fund a large share of the system. The “tax the rich” soundbite ignores how mobile people are today. When they leave, the ripple effects go far beyond taxes - philanthropy, investment, and hiring tend to follow where people live.

We are now a week into this fight over the data center tax break and I have yet to hear any coherent answer on why every small business in Virginia has to pay our sales and use tax but data centers should be excempt.

The tax burden of living in NYC does not sting as much on a day like today, when there is an observable public goods benefit (streets are clear and schools are open)

@SolomonforJC Well done! I can recall schools being closed for a week after comparable storms in 1996 and…not sure of the other, more recent instance. 2016?

We believe Blizzard 2026 was one of the ten biggest snow storms in Jersey City’s recorded history. Our crews will be out overnight finishing their roadway clean-up. Tomorrow, we’ll expand our efforts to clear crosswalks and more. I want to say thank you to every Public Works crew member, MUA worker, police officer, fire fighter, and city employee who worked through that night (and the night after that): Jersey City sees your hard work and appreciates you. To our residents: thank you for your patience. We heard your frustrations after the last storm. We took notes. We incorporated real learnings, and while this one wasn’t perfect, it was a lot better. That’s the standard we’re holding ourselves to: not perfection, but constant improvement. In snow ops, and in everything we do. A few updates as we return to normal: 🗑️ Garbage collection resumes on its regular schedule this evening 🏫 Schools and government offices are open tomorrow 🧹 Street sweeping remains suspended for now Jersey City deserves a government as good as its people. We’re going to keep working towards that goal.

New York City mayor Zohran Mamdani is trying to demonstrate that the public sector can match or even surpass the private sector in excellence. It’s high time the Left reclaimed the value of “efficiency” from right-wing forces of privatization and austerity. jacobin.com/2026/02/zohran…

Meet GEO Group, the single largest contractor powering ICE's mass detention machine. GEO Group owns and operates Delaney Hall in New Jersey, and under my new legislation introduced with @katiebrennan_32, they would face a 50% tax for operating in our state with proceeds going to a fund for immigrant assistance. We're sending a clear message: ICE and their corporate enablers are not welcome in New Jersey. projectsaltbox.substack.com/p/what-is-an-i…
