Just like Eric Adams, former Jersey City Mayor Steve Fulop repeatedly under-budgeted expenses to make it look like his budgets were balanced. Now Jersey City needs the biggest municipal bailout in state history. Fulop has since crossed the river and now heads NYC's main business lobby, where he's running a $10 million campaign to oppose tax hikes on the wealthy. If he gets his way, we'll be in an even bigger fiscal crisis than he left for residents of Jersey City. Beware corporate lobbyists claiming to be fiscally responsible. nj.com/politics/2026/…

I have a feeling we're going to keep learning about shady stuff that happened during Fulop's tenure. Solomon isn't going to cover the last administration's secrets the way so many leaders do. Hopefully he fixes JC's OPRA dept so the public/press can play a role in exposing it!

@admcrlsn He was far from a progressive as mayor, though he shifted to the left lane when he thought that was his best path to the gubernatorial nomination. (Voters saw through it and he finished a distant third behind the true progressive in the race.)

I’m old enough to remember when Fulop was an actual progressive as Jersey City Mayor & candidate for NJ-Gov, instead of a paid apologist for the mega-wealthy & business interests. And that was just last year. Either he was being disingenuous then, or he’s being disingenuous now

We are now a week into this fight over the data center tax break and I have yet to hear any coherent answer on why every small business in Virginia has to pay our sales and use tax but data centers should be excempt.

The tax burden of living in NYC does not sting as much on a day like today, when there is an observable public goods benefit (streets are clear and schools are open)

We believe Blizzard 2026 was one of the ten biggest snow storms in Jersey City’s recorded history. Our crews will be out overnight finishing their roadway clean-up. Tomorrow, we’ll expand our efforts to clear crosswalks and more. I want to say thank you to every Public Works crew member, MUA worker, police officer, fire fighter, and city employee who worked through that night (and the night after that): Jersey City sees your hard work and appreciates you.
