Excellent overview of China's chip industry by @pstAsiatech at American Affairs. americanaffairsjournal.org/2024/02/a-new-… One additional thought: Huawei is spending several billion dollars a year in basic research on materials science. The future of semiconductors may not be in etching thinner grooves on hunks of silicon, but in manipulation of the quantum properties of matter. China graduated 80k materials engineers in 2022 vs. about 3400 in the US.
