There’s enough evidence now to show that Zubimendi can’t reliably receive and progress the ball under pressure against Premier League pressing. He got away with it earlier in the season because opponents hadn’t figured it out, but now they have, and he’s become a press-trigger, which has led to him avoiding buildup responsibilities. He’s a tier-C defensive midfielder, you have to accept that truth. Next summer, go all out and sign a true buildup-special No. 6.
