The NHL published an article this morning with 3 reasons why Nikita Kucherov should win the Hart Memorial Trophy this year.
If you didn’t get to read it, here are some standouts.
1) POINT PRODUCTION:
Nikita Kucherov is 1st in the NHL for 4-point games (8), 4-assist games (3) & multi-assist games (23). Additionally, he’s tied with McDavid in multi-point games (37), and he’s tied with MacKinnon for 3-point games (17).
2) SHOT SPEED:
Kucherov’s average shot speed is in the 95th percentile amongst NHL forwards. Additionally, he has 109 70-80MPH shot attempts (99th percentile) & 51 80-90MPH shot attempts (98th percentile).
3) PLAY MAKING ABILITY:
Kucherov has 1.21 assists per game, which is 1st in the NHL by a large margin. He is 2nd in the NHL (tied w/ McDavid) in primary assists per game (.71) — Pastrnak has .72/game. Beyond that, Kucherov has skated 35.82 miles on the PP (99th percentile), and holds 45.7% of offensive zone time (91st percentile).
It’s time. Just give it to him.

Rapid Reaction || 6-2 Win (VAN):
In my opinion, we did enough in this game to be walking away empty handed. Thankfully, three factors helped us overcome our lapses in judgement.
1) Vancouver is very clearly the worst team in the league. Even when we coughed up the puck in prime scoring locations, Vancouver failed to convert. I'm sure other teams would've capitalized on our mistakes much more. So, yeah, that definitely worked in our favor.
2) Andrei Vasilevskiy played another terrific game. If it weren't for Vasilevskiy, the game could've easily taken a different route. Our opening 5 minutes resembled our slump in more ways than I'd like to admit. Thankfully, the Lightning recovered well & improved throughout the game.
3) The Lightning gave the Canucks the "38/71/86 effect"...I know Seattle & Vancouver aren't the best teams in the NHL, but it sure feels like deploying that trio is a superpower...how are you supposed to stop it? If you cover Kucherov, the most dynamic duo in the NHL will out-hustle you to score a gritty goal. If you worry about the duo, Kucherov will either paint the corners or thread the needle to set up Hagel's nasty shot. Like I said, superpower...
It was in full display tonight, which I thought was a major factor in helping the Bolts overcome their mistakes.
Two wins in a row is huge; we're earning points and that is what matters. Two more opportunities on this roadtrip to continue munching points.
Congrats to Brandon Hagel who became the the 3rd fastest Lightning player to reach 300 points (329 GP).
