@AntonioTinocoV I’m earning now in my current postdoc than what my parents have ever earned in their jobs, but it’s definitely not enough to sustain both me and my parents down the line 😔 It’s so hard

@AntonioTinocoV I feel the same way. I’m also expected to support my parents in old age, but I’m not sure if I can do that in academia. My dad is retired now and my mom is getting up there.

I love science and academia and the environment it provides. But seeing this poster today made me question a lot. How is it that I have a PhD but in a position that pays less than a general manager in the Bay Area? Thinking about this shit hurts. Does it actually get better?
