@iunlearn

I am unlearning at Penn State...trying to remain true to my iconoclast nature...laughing at my own silly thoughts.

@Poliscikosis @WTSmith17 @Soc119 Thanks, @Poliscikosis. I appreciate the acknowledgement. I've been doing this for so long that I somehow have lost sight of how difficult it is -- or dangerous. LoL. And so you know, I don't have tenure. LoL for a second time.

When I was in grad school getting my masters in political science, I attempted to do a class lecture in @Soc119 kind of vein (before I knew about Soc119. I did it with the full unedited Covington video. Had it not been for my Dept Chair being a STRONG advocate for me, I would have been let go after that lecture. After I graduated I taught Federal Government in high school, and again attempted to (in a gentler way) broach the notion that polarization is killing us. Every semester there is some controversy because these students (dual credit seniors mind you) have never been confronted with these types of questions. I faithfully teach in alignment with the State standards (the Texas TEKS) and have constructed curriculum for both high school and college level federal government. But I am now looking to transfer into administration because it provides more stability and is not an endless minefield of potential danger. I LOVE teaching American Government. But Im not going to risk endless poverty and fear of losing my job every semester in order to do it. That being said... I wholeheartedly support and wish professors like Soc119 the absolute best and LOVE his videos. Tenure was made for things like he does in his lecture hall. But if you dont have tenure.... well.... Warren learned what can happen.

The Professor who did not fear YouTube, and how it made him #1 at Penn State University. @Soc119 message me if you would like to debate or discuss anything in this video.

@wekselbaum Actually, I’ve never told anyone that it’s ok to drop the n-bomb. My job is to get students to think critically about why they say things they say and so I sometimes use rhetorical questions to do that (Why can’t... or What if...).

Yes. I just didn’t get to current situations beyond Venezuela...and even there it’s so difficult to discuss situations in individual countries because people know so little context.

Yes. It’s sort of absurd, isn’t it?

@iunlearn I'm using "A Radical Experiment in Empathy" in my Issues in Modern American Politics class tomorrow. I've been using it since 2010 in half a dozen different classes.

Sam if you could use the term "fustercluck" instead, I'd really appreciate it. #soc119

@maidamagic Actually, the research we looked at in class accounts for this.

@seuntheactivist On the contrary. The exercise is designed to hear average ideas and not experts.
