The language in this U.S. State Department readout is astonishingly condescending. An American official “underscored” to India’s External Affairs Minister that violations of a U.S. blockade “will not be tolerated.” Since when does Washington issue instructions to a sovereign nation in this tone? India before the @narendramodi regime consistently asserted its strategic autonomy & independent foreign policy. Will @narendramodi now formally protest this language and seek a clarification from @realDonaldTrump when the two meet? No? Why not?
