@SCHDETF 2 years ago, I paid my house off in 7 years while still maxing my 401k and roth. Now I am buying as much schd a month as I can. I definitely lost out on some gains, but having no debt is stress free. No regrets.

I Could Have Paid Off My Mortgage. I Started My $SCHD Journey Instead. Seeing the post below made me think about how I got started with $SCHD. Back in 2017, after selling our house, we had enough cash to almost wipe out the mortgage on the new one. The safe move would have been to pay it down aggressively. Instead, we put down just enough to lock in the lowest rate possible and invested the rest. We secured a 3.6% mortgage. At the time, $SCHD was yielding in the high 2% range. Not a huge spread. On paper it did not look like a slam dunk. I did not lump it all in. I eased into $SCHD and a few other stocks over time because I was still learning. I was not comfortable putting a large chunk into one investment unless it tracked the S&P 500. Conviction takes time. Fast forward to today. My overall yield on cost on $SCHD is 4.16%. Those first shares from 2018 are yielding 6.62%. Dividend growth quietly changed the math. I now hold over 8,000 shares of $SCHD. And yes, with hindsight, I wish I had bought a lot more earlier. The income growth alone has outpaced that 3.6% mortgage rate. But hindsight is easy. The real lesson is this. Balance and time matter. A low fixed rate gave us stability. Investing the difference gave us upside. Over time, compounding did what compounding does.

I’m about to buy a $1 million house at about 5.5% VA loan. I’ve been saving for a long while in order to make a larger down payment, and came up with $450k in cash. I initially planned to put the whole thing into the down payment to borrow much less, even though 5.5% is low enough that I can probably do better in the market. But I talked to my cousin Vinny in NJ (he’s a CPA) and we looked at some better choices. We talked about $VIG, $SCHD, and $SPHD as conservative investments that will probably do more for me than making a massive down payment. $VIG isn’t really as much a dividend ETF as it is an ETF of dividend-growing companies. It tracks the S&P pretty tightly but the yield is real low. I have over 700 shares already. $SPHD pays monthly dividends, which is nice, but most of its holdings are in real estate or other more interest rate-sensitive sectors. Its dividend is choppy. $SCHD has a really low beta at 0.73 and so is probably the most conservative. It’s also pretty heavy on energy. We ran some simulations and determined that based on current dividend growth, my dividends will probably exceed my mortgage interest between 6-7 years from now. I decided to put 20% ($200k) down on the house and put almost all of the rest into SCHD. I’m now holding 6,100 shares of SCHD and I’m riding hard with the most boomer of all dividend ETFs. Maybe I’ll get lucky and interest rates will drop enough that I can even refinance lower later.

The road to the Open Championship: This round changed Ryggs Johnston’s career. It was the fourth round of @DPWorldTour and he was 4 off the cut line coming into the round. Shot 65, easily made the cut. Shot another 65 in the 5th round. Then had a difficult decision. Go to second stage of KFT Q-school or go get some vital early season starts on DP. He WD’d and went to Australia for the first few events….and won. Tomorrow he tees it up in his first Major.

You’d think with less than two weeks before the Open Champ starts, the R&A could give me a decent idea of whether I’m playing it or not… but nope. All I’ve gotten is “you have a slight chance” 🙄 My friend who looked at all the qualifications has given me more info than the R&A has. There’s still 6 spots left and if they fill it with OWGR, then I’m most likely in but even that they won’t say anything about.

One of the longest running and best mini-tours in the country is really struggling to get fields. Not to long ago they had 100 plus players in each field. This weeks event had 24. It’s a great tour, that you can make an actual profit. I hope they get more players up there.

Call me crazy. But this is like catching a falling knife. Yankees 0-6 last 6. Might even think about an Aaron Judge homerun today. He’s due. Gulp.

If Bitcoin was a publicly traded stock, it would be the fourth largest in the world by market cap and it ain’t stopping there. #1 soon? Think about how long it took Apple and Microsoft and even Nvidia to get to where they are now. Bitcoin took just 16 years….

Hi @TomBrady, just some friendly swing advice. It looks like you get a little laid off at the top with a pretty open face and then you add a lot of wrist angles in the transition (I.e. lag). That means ur clubface is really really open in that 2nd photo and you don’t have a lot of time to release the club and get rid of all that lag. Lag is only good if you’re able to get rid of it. Which is why in the third photo, ur right hand is almost off the club, a byproduct of ur hands trying its hardest to get rid of all that lag and release the face. So advice: Less laid off and less open face in the backswing OR feel the release of the club much much earlier than what you’re used to. Also, try to get rid of some lag and wrist angles (more like Steve stricker or Bryson), that’ll help some of the mishits I saw you hitting on the range

Story from Castle Pines, this weeks tournament course: One of the finishing holes was a par 5, Phil gets to the tee box after his playing competitor had hit his tee shot from using the restroom. As soon as Phil gets to the tee, Bones is trying to convince Phil (in the lead during the final round) to hit a conservative tee shot on a very narrow par 5. Bones “(Playing partner) just hit 5wd to a really good spot, we can hit 3i in the fairway and hit another 4i on the green no problem.” Phil: “OVERRULED” (while smiling) pulls out driver, proceeds to hit it 30 yards into the trees 😂 But of course, Phil chips out, 6i on the green, makes the 15ft putt for birdie and cruises to a win

As I look thru the Colorado Open field it reminds me that if I got a dollar for every time a player told me “I’m done playing” but returned to playing… I’d be hitting tee shots off the heli-pad on my yacht to a green I had built on the island I just bought.
