@johnramsay43 @grheard 1.2-1.5 bales of cotton lint / ML. So 3ML = 3.6-4.5 bales of lint. PLUS .9-1.2 tonnes of cotton seed, used for stock feed or human feed. PLUS cotton trash (leaf, etc) used for stock feed. That’s is a HOT climate. Darling Downs would have much better water use ratios.

While many armchair farming experts are telling Murray Darling cotton farmers to grow hemp instead of cotton, because it’s the answer to the world’s problems, one Tasmania hemp company has gone into receivership, leaving farmers unpaid.

@samheagney @grheard We used 3 ML to grow one tonne sam. In cool climate. What does cotton do?

@grheard If someone cites a hemp crop from a high rainfall zone, like Byron Bay and compares it to a cotton crop at Mungindi, the water use will be lower. It’s just not an accurate representation of reality

@johnramsay43 @MgrDev @Thorpe_Farm @CoreyBlacksell @TasPiers @JockHughes1 Finishing system compared to a breeding or lambing is vastly different. Currently running 180 to 300 to the ha on finishing post weaning and do not need small paddocks. Lambing small paddocks are proven gold. End of story
