Free agent INF/OF Jon Berti is generating @MLB interest after posting a 1.132 OPS with Team Italy at the @WBCBaseball. Ten teams have checked in, given Berti's bat and versatility. He intends to sign with a contender that needs him to play multiple positions. @MLBNetwork

WBC allows @MLB 40-man roster players and those *eligible* for Italian passports, even if they do not have citizenship. Premier16 rules are different; passports are required for participation, and 40-man roster players are not included. Thus, Italy is searching for candidates.

Team Italy, the @WBCBaseball semifinalist, already has begun preparations for the @WBSC Premier16 qualifier in October. Marco Mazzieri, Italian federation president, is looking for Italian passport holders to play in the event, the first step in @LA28 qualifying. @WBSCEurope

Before this week, the most widely viewed sports moment in Venezuela was the 1992 Olympic basketball qualifying tournament, in which they lost to the Dream Team. Now they’ve defeated Team USA’s baseball Dream Team. 🇻🇪 are richly deserving champions.
