If Modi was winning the state elections in such landslide victories with genuine public support, why is the Gen Z revolting everywhere he won? The truth is screaming at us in the face. And it will be his undoing.

Pellet guns, lathis and tear gas were used against students peacefully protesting in Delhi.
I met 19-year-old Sahil Lochab. Shot with pellets, he may lose an eye. His “crime”? Demanding an end to paper leaks and a fair future for our students.
@AmitShah ji, I have two questions:
1. Did you approve the use of lethal force, including pellet guns, against students? If not, who did?
2. Were the men in plain clothes beating students with lathis police personnel or volunteers? Who authorised their deployment?

Do you consider the shockingly indecent sexually explicit abuses and life threats hurled at Modi by young girls falling within the ambit of democratic speech and expression?
University authorities are not wrong in cautioning students and faculty against participation in street protests hijacked by opposition political elements and sundry ideologues to subvert the government and create anarchy.

“Is this within the definition of “democratic speech and expression”?” Short answer Yes.

@ranjona ...yes and never forget Manipur. Most coward and weak PM who could never speak a word or control the riots. Pathetic.

@bainjal They were deeply frustrated and this man could never understand if it was so normal.

Yes the language used by Gen Z is vulgar. But, the lot policing their language were mum when India’s PM called women “50 crore ki girlfriend”, “jersey cow” & “Cong ki vidhwa”. The same lot were mum when trolls followed by Modi routinely give out rape & death threats & rejoiced when Gauri Lankesh was murdered. Where has Gen Z learnt from? Do ask

@PratikBhatnagar @TheEconomist Wrong judgement. Arrogance of your leader never allowed him to learn. He never respected democracy, opposition or constitution.
English

It’s an opportunity to learn, not just a defeat. Failure is often the precondition for growth — I’d frame this as the PM getting a chance to learn from a younger generation. Your framing reads like it comes from a scarcity mindset, or maybe a bias against Modi. An abundance mindset — which is central to Indian culture — means there’s no shame in learning from those younger than you.

It is a rare defeat for the prime minister, who has been taught a lesson by an upstart youth movement economist.com/asia/2026/07/2…

@TheEconomist Effectively Modi is a lame duck. He has visibly lost his mandate though I doubt he ever had a real mandate. Nautanki over.
English

@TheEconomist It was hollow from the beginning. It was only influenced, inflated with wrong intentions and coercion.
