@HeidiAHill1 “I, and many others who’ve studied Jefferson, do not accept Monticello’s current institutional line as settled fact” So, can you expand on that? I have never heard of this and I am interested to know more. Or at least point me in a direction to find out more

Hamilton is not a man who should be celebrated and romanticized. In Jefferson and the Ordeal of Liberty, Dumas Malone refers to him as “a potential American Bonaparte.” As Secretary of the Treasury under Washington, he went behind Jefferson's back (then Secretary of State) to conduct back-channel dealings with the British minister George Hammond. He arrogantly announced an affair to clear his name of potential embezzlement. (I cheated on my wife with Maria Reynolds and paid blackmail to her husband, but I didn't steal from the treasury, so it's all good.) He had a great deal to do with creating the rift between Adams and Jefferson by starting the diabolical political mudslinging–based on lies–that has forever tarnished Jefferson's reputation. (And no, I, and many others who’ve studied Jefferson, do not accept Monticello’s current institutional line as settled fact.) John Adams is the man who stopped Hamilton, defunding his would-be wars and refusing to indulge what Malone called “his colossal ignorance of European affairs.” It cost Adams a second term as President, and he knew it would. Adams is by far the most underrated founding father and deserves far more credit than he gets.

It’s kind of funny that John Adams is left entirely out of the Hamilton musical. It probably would have undermined the central character too much. Meanwhile we have this scene from the HBO series.

If Ormund was a female character, these writers would’ve made her an honorable pacifist doing her duty reluctantly. Women in this show aren’t allowed to be as ambitious, ruthless, evil and vengeful as the men. Even though that’s a far more feminist message.

Making illiteracy the standard will certainly ruin what little chance that might have had from reading well and properly. If I didn’t know how liberals think, I’d be keen on interpreting this as an attack on impoverished Negro people in California in an attempt to legitimize the disparity at which they master the only language they know by removing the standard of having mastered it at all from their curriculum. The broken English of Black Americans isn’t a feature it’s a bug. Treating the refusal to learn it as an accomplishment is counter productive and quite frankly, a detriment to the race. If our success can only be measured by however much we abuse, butcher, and break the tools we have acquired rather than our mastery of them, then we are doomed. What’s the purpose of a knife with a dull edge, a gun with no ammunition, or speaking a language you barely understand? Further, what prestige is there in owning such junk, and why would anyone in their right mind celebrate them in such a state?

Activists are pushing for Black English to be legitimized in preschool as a way to build children’s literacy skills in California, per NYP.
