We are heading into our third major tournament with Clarke. Amazing, obviously. But we are seeing the exact same mistakes being made prior to the tournament. Another poor performance v Ivory Coast further kills the momentum built from Denmark. Clarke knows who he will start the first game. The friendlies are a waste of time imo.

Agree with Steve Clarke. Disappointing hearing booing at Hampden after Scotland qualified for the World Cup to end nearly 30 yrs of failure. Poor against Japan, no excuses, but it's a friendly. Some players played who wouldn't normally. Just a bit of perspective. #TartanArmy 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

My preferred Scotland starting XI for the match against Japan today: • Full strength before a more experimental lineup v Côte d’Ivoire. • Tierney tried out at RB. • Full Serie A central midfield three of Gilmour, Ferguson & McTominay. What team would you like to see? 👇🏻

@Geeb1872 @unbawmcgaw The rules are different. If the ball hits the arm in the build up to a goal, then they should chop it off. The only thing is phases of play. Aberdeen had possession of the ball, so the goal is a new phase of play, it shouldn’t have been chopped off.

Right can someone with more referee knowledge explain this to me … if this happens in the box it’s waved away as a “his arm was close to his body” type deal and rightly so. So why do VAR go back and chop a goal off for it?

Another important performance from Findlay Curtis for Kilmarnock today. Since making his Rangers debut, he has played a total of 750 minutes in the Scottish Premiership. He has 4 goals and 5 assists. Averaging a goal contribution every 83 minutes.

I’m not sure about hunger. For all his flaws I haven’t ever watched him and thought he wasn’t given it all. Natural finisher is certainly debatable but those are a rare bread nowadays. I’m not Rohl knows exactly what he wants from an attacker yet either, you’d assume a pre-season would sort that.

@IainMitchell17 @oanthenumbers It's a fair point but doesn't negate the lack of hunger, that inate instinct that natural finishers seem to have .. or maybe has developed during those formative years. Nature v nurture argument

Stats tell you things your eyes don't but my eyes tell me that Chermiti doesn't have that "killer" instinct to poke a loose ball in the box home. I don't expect him to score every chance but he just doesn't "feel" like a number 9 goal scorer
Iain@IainMitchell17

🧵 Been looking into @FotMob’s stats on the striker options we have ⚽️ Feel like everyone says Chermiti and Naderi are too similar to play together, and on the face of it they are both big target men who look to hold the ball up, but you don’t see either doing a lot of their work IN the box - so they do seem similar. However, a graph I like is how their stats compare per 90 in attack and defence. This is a small sample size since Naderi’s only played six league games, but it’s a good way of seeing they actually don’t play that similiar…

The fee is obviously an issue, but all of the above mentioned played more football earlier in their careers. Of the 3 mentioned, all of them had played over 100 games by 21. Defoe and Boyd were starting to score consistently, but McCoist was going to Rangers after an unsuccessful spell at Sunderland.

@Acemcl It’s almost like he doesn’t want it enough at times. See the way a Boyd/McCoist/Defoe would be all over a half chance, he’s not got that desperation to score

That spell of him popping up at Celtic games leads me to believe it’s a done deal.
Michael Shearer@MichaelcShearer

@Record_Sport journalist Michael Gannon says people around Jens Berthel Askou’s orbit believe he is extremely keen on the Celtic job. The Motherwell boss is reportedly on a shortlist alongside Robbie Keane and Craig Bellamy, and would “snap it up in a heartbeat.” celtsarehere.com/celtic-fc-jens…

A real Jekyll & Hyde performance from Celtic that - looked absolutely miles off it in the first half but dominant in the final 45. I thought Reo Hatate changed the game, giving Celtic far more control in the centre of the pitch and allowed them to play through the midfield. Oxlade-Chamberlain was pretty anonymous first half and struggled with the physicality and pace of the game. Tounekti impressive too. Celtic looked far more of a threat with him on that left wing, getting on the ball and running with it rather than looking to exploit Maeda's pace. A tough one for Dujon Sterling who I thought was immense all game, bombing up and down that right hand side. Matched Maeda comfortably when he was out wide, and was sound against Tounekti. Mikey Moore looked excellent first half, constantly causing a threat but faded in the second half. Rangers look so much better when they can play up to Chermiti to link the play, but couldn't quite make that happen for the full 90. Can't wait to do it all again next weekend.

@adamski152 Yeah, for sure. Rangers, for me, drop to 3rd favourites after today but that could change midweek. Its wild

@oanthenumbers Could also check the last 5 games form table where they are sixth with a whopping five goals and five conceded. Going to be a bumpy run in for everyone!

That was a sickener from being so dominant. Game plan hinges on Naderi and Chukwuani and both looked done in at 60 mins.Everything else then becomes a game of trade offs without replacements. Really poor in key moments but should still have imposed ourselves more second half.

@oanthenumbers I can't think of many teams who have been able to override such a long and consistent data overperformance over basically an entire season with mentlaity. Like I said in another reply, if they do manage to go on and do it then fair play! I hope it regresses soon tho 😅

@_Stuarty17 @adamski152 Rohl could replicate what McInnes has done in theory, they are closer to each other style wise. I don’t think, even with a pre-season, he could to what Askou has done. If he could you’d see signs of it at least

@oanthenumbers @adamski152 I think people really underestimate & under appreciate how good Hearts/Well have been and getting rewards from what they've built since July in pre-season. Rohl had a mammoth task coming into this with minimal time & grace to fire it up & turn it around.

Mentality? 3 out of 4 of those draws Rangers have created better chances from open play than their opponents and should have won (didn’t do enough to v Hibs). That then asks the question of personnel. There is one player specifically who could be picked out as a real problem but it’s unlikely the manager will drop him.

@oanthenumbers All the underlying metrics over 10/20 games show steady improvement. I have no idea how Hearts are pulling out some of the wins they are based on their underlying data. It's all relative.

@adamski152 What do you consider huge steps back? 2 wins in 6 looks like the start of a regression. 4th place not out of the question in current form. Crazy position to be in after that Hearts result!

There's no direct replacement for Naderi and Chukwuani. No-one who can do what they do. I believe Souttar causes more issues than he solves and I think Raskin's second half performance today is becoming more and more frequent and is more apparent with better quality around him.

Another mad weekend. - Hearts keep winning and open up a 6 point lead - Motherwell close the gap on Celtic/Rangers - Big comeback for Celtic that could kick them on - Rangers drop more points from a winning position I personally think the title race is now between Hearts and Celtic. Rangers don’t like they can put a run together and Motherwell’s form v the top 6 doesn’t look strong enough. I have been wrong many times before… #scottishfootball #spfl
