Devotion, being truly seen, transcendent love are all over Dante, Shakespeare, Tolstoy etc, and nobody’s calling Dante pornbrained. Framing desires that have deeply moved people across genders and centuries diminutively as “female fantasy” didn’t seem fair

Women have been the equivalent of pornbrained by romance novels and Disney and are expecting male partners that cater to the female fantasy of idealized emotional connection. These men mostly do not exist, men are different and imperfect and imo women should drop standards

& the best push back i've heard on this point is that morality is an inherent human/societal trait that arises prior to and apart from religion. & that if this is the case, religion wouldn't necessarily be the best case scenario for people in a "thoughtless" society

so i recently had a take that if an institution is full of thoughtless people, I would rather that institution (whether it be a city, company, club, etc.) be religious as opposed to atheist b/c religion codifies morality that supports a high trust society...

people that think connecting deeply with others is THAT rare just aren't 1. meeting enough people or 2. aren't being vulnerable. go be out in the world! meaningful human connection is easy to find once you open yourself up to it.

Homelessness policy must incentivize treatment and recovery. It is not compassionate to let homeless people be victimized by drug addiction, criminal activity, and untreated mental illness (the policy NHLC pushes for) just because they can't seek out help on their own. If you can intervene to help someone who is suffering, you should. If you could help, but you do nothing, isn't that the real cruelty?
