Bella Abzug was a feminist, civil rights lawyer, and Congresswoman who helped pave the way for women in politics. A formidable leader of the women's movement, Bella Abzug fought to pass the Equal Rights Amendment and other vital legislation for the rights of women. Let’s carry her legacy forward by voting for those who continue that fight. Make Bella proud this Election Tuesday. Vote! 📷 Rep. Bella Abzug emerges from voting booth at Food and Maritime Trades High School in Sep. 15, 1976. buff.ly/406ZPsu

It's election day. Seemed like a good moment to share Emma Lazarus' great poem "The New Colossus."

We're going to post a poem by a Jewish poet every day this week. This is "Snow", by Rose Auslander (1901-1988) trans. from the German by Jean Boase-Beier & Anthony Vivis

The seven days of Sukkot start tomorrow. Sukkot is one of the three Jewish festivals on which the ancient Israelites were commanded to make a pilgrimage to the Temple in Jerusalem. This beautiful folio-sized machzor (prayerbook) for Sukkot according to the Provençal rite of Avignon, was written by the scribe David Tsoref in 1721. 1/
