@karpathy I actually actively despise this feature especially in chatgpt, sometimes I ask about ice cream and he answers with: "knowing you're a software developer you could think of ice cream as..." no I just want a recipe, I don't want it personalised to me being a software dev

One common issue with personalization in all LLMs is how distracting memory seems to be for the models. A single question from 2 months ago about some topic can keep coming up as some kind of a deep interest of mine with undue mentions in perpetuity. Some kind of trying too hard.

the base thesis is that since wr e can shit out huge amounts of code now, therr's no way to review it all via human brains. sure. but nobody seems to ask why we want shit out huge amounts of code in the first place. mythical man month of the AI age.
Latent.Space@latentspacepod

🆕 How to Kill The Code Review latent.space/p/reviews-dead the volume and size of PRs is skyrocketing. @simonw called out StrongDM’s “Dark Factory” last month: no human code, but *also* no human review (!?) in this week’s guest post, @ankitxg makes a 5 step layered playbook for how this can come true.

@aledeniz isn't it mostly a result of the elite that made Italy mostly not caring about the south at all and the compounding effects it had? Or is that false?

This class of explanations for why Southern Italy, and especially Sicily, is poorer than Northern Italy fails to account for why this is a relatively recent phenomenon. Sicily was wealthier than Veneto until the 1930s. Yes, Central-Northern Italy was likely the richest area in the world during the late Middle Ages and early Renaissance, but at that time Southern Italy and Sicily were probably the second-richest place in the world – richer than – or at least on par with – the rest of Western Europe, let alone Northern Europe. Purported genetic differences cannot really explain why the divergence has become pretty stable only after 1971.

We literally know this isn’t the case from brain damage patients who retain their reasoning abilities unaffected despite having their language center cooked, and from all the living beings who have cognition despite not having language. But the techbro midwit is undeterred.
Cheng Lou@_chenglou

Stupidly late realization on why LLMs are so good at reasoning: human’s reasoning capability is bottlenecked by language! It’s not that languages are good at reasoning; reasoning ended up being defined by language first and foremost. The medium truly shapes the message

My entire net worth is in third order Rapture derivatives. If the chance of “the chance of “the chance of the Rapture exceeds 5%” exceeds 5%” exceeds 5%, i lose my house
tedfrank@tedfrank

So the reason this Polymarket “prediction market” is performing so insanely high is because there’s a second market asking if this market will go above 5%. People in the derivative market are manipulating this market. Which defeats the public policy case for prediction markets…
