@sigjudge As a PM for a streaming service I can tell you the battle to "just do it native!" is never ending. It's always one "cool" idea or biz dev deal away from ending up custom.

Other missing features include: • Siri Remote jogg support • "What did he/she/they say?" • Picture In Picture • System wide audio/ subtitle preferences • Reduce Loud Sounds • Dim Flashing Lights • Up Next + many, many more including important accessibility options.

Max launches today, and with it brings yet another chapter in the battle between Warner/Discovery executives and Apple TV customers. @StreamOnMax switches away from Apple's native video player in the continued pursuit of creating an inferior product...

@sulka @rmondello Would like to know how passkeys will work when IT makes us change our passwords every 90 days for no benefit. New passkeys every 90 days?

@rmondello Heh, looks like Google chose to have Passkeys disabled by default for corporate accounts, so a lot of folks won’t get this until every IT department around the world are convinced Passkeys are indeed a thing.

Huge day for passkeys! Starting today, you can set up a passkey for your Google account. At this stage of the industry-wide transition, setting up a passkey doesn’t invalidate your password, so it’s 100% safe to set up. blog.google/technology/saf…

Now, of course, it would require us all to show some grace and allow for peoples' viewpoints to evolve, rather than just cancelling them for tweets from years ago. I'm sure I've said some stupid shit on here in the past that I wouldn't say today.

I kinda wish Twitter did *not* have a "delete tweet" feature. Feels like it would make people tweet more responsibly if they knew that whatever they were saying became a matter of public record.

@Devin_Heroux I honestly hope you tell your colleagues @CBCOlympics & @cbcsports to have the GEM app set up the same way for the Paralympics. For Tokyo the streams were not easy to find and navigate. Paralympian’s deserve the same amount respect and coverage!!

The Beijing 2022 Olympics is now the most-streamed Games ever on CBC Gem. Viewing time was up 19 percent over Tokyo 2020.

@blakecrosby You should get a proper Geo error. That may be the stream had ended but still in the CMS cache as live or a “Code 18” when setting up/stoping the stream.

Trying to watch @CBCNews live stream from the USA. Assuming it's geofenced? (cc:@raso). Better messaging would be appreciated 😝

@mathladyca @Devin_Heroux The CBC Gem name & brand launched in 2018, however the service (under the CBC TV name) has been around since 2011 with most of the current experience launching in 2016.

@Mark_Lennox @cbcgem @NVIDIASHIELD @CBC Try using the select button when fast forwarding. We identified a bug where if you use the play/pause button it will sometimes cancels the fwd action. Sorry about that.

Any reason why I can't fast forward in @cbcgem watching Olympic replays? I have two @NVIDIASHIELD devices, and I can only fast forward in @CBC Gem on one of them.

@daringfireball Could Apple open Apple Pay for IAP use? The user would be able to pick their iTunes account or a CC in their Wallet. It’s safer then entering CC into random app. Developer gets to use thier own supporting Payment Gateway. Apple collects its commission via the card network.

@trumanboyes I have a file folder labeled “HTML Bible” with web page print outs explaining how to do all the cutting edge techniques such as image rollovers, figures, image maps and left hand nav bars (cnet circa 1996)

@raso We’re sorry if you feel that way — we understand how important it is for you. Could you tell us when and where you purchased your device? Also, what country are you from?

I misplaced the mounting plate for a Nest Protect smoke alarm and was told by @googlenesthelp to "go buy a new Nest Protect". So e-waste a perfectly good device because of a missing chunk of plastic.

@SamuelPolay I think the addition of ARC support to the Apple TV plays right into your idea from last year that Apple should make a HomePod Soundbar. Seems super niche to get return audio from the TV to HomePod minis. More appropriate for a soundbar/atv combo to need ARC.

@julian_dunn @hypatiadotca @CBC Yup. I think it had all started as a joke. We wanted to overhaul and modernize the entire site (circa ‘06/7). We broke up the work to make it manageable. Someone joked “it’s ver 1.5” once a PM heard that we couldn’t shake it.

@hypatiadotca People trying to semantic version control the web is about the stupidest branding concept I've seen in my technology career. I remember when I worked at @CBC we had a "Web 2.0" project with interim "Web 1.5" and "Web 1.6" milestones. I'm not even kidding. /cc @raso

@cbcgem can you tell me why the replay for the USWNT vs SWE soccer match doesn't work? All of the other matches are working except that one! All it does is play a 25 second video of the Tokyo Olympic Symbol?!

@Altavistagoogle On the FireTV make sure you have the newest version of Gem (v 9.61) to access all of the Olympics.

Is it just me or does @cbcgem have none of the Olympics stuff in their system? They're advertising they have it. I'd think of all times to have it ready to go, now would be it...
